"4muddyfeet - bare knuckle with an EZ30" (4muddyfeet)

I've read horror stories interspersed with 'Argh DPF every 500 miles' and '70MPG? Even 60 is unattainable'. But for every piece of bad press there's 100 praising it. So if I'm looking at one with 100k+ on the clock...

I know nothing about the 1.6 TDi, haha.
I do know that the seats look narsty and I have a distinct feeling about the last "company" owner.

If possible try and find one that was never a taxi/ company car (I know that isn't easy to do with Octavias) since those cars can get ragged on pretty hard. From experience clutches, CV joints and things like that will end up needing work.

I SOWWWY
That one looks better to me! Love the B7 A4 steering wheel -leather and the Volkswagen hubcaps. Gotta love that parts bin. Those air vents are awesome also. Seems fairly well equipped also.

There's not a lot around our way, so I'm having to look further afield and settle with scrutinising interior shots. For example; this speaker panel looks like it's had something particularly yummy spilled across it
I want one. Just not a taxi :(

Have you considered the 1.6 diesel Focus estate? I know someone who has a 57 reg one and it's been a hell of a workhorse, 140'000 miles and counting. I'm not sure if they're all that dependable but this one has been great.
It gets taken on some pretty rough terrain (he works in outdoor sports) too and never misses a beat.

It's a bit small for what I want it for, but the '12 model comes in at £20 tax a year... remarkable. I'll have a look, and at the Mondeo too. I've had a Focus before and it was good car until I sold it.

Parts bin = Reliable and proven components in high supply used sympathetically by an alternate manufacturer.
I'm OK with that.

I was under the impression the Focus estate was very close in size to the Octavia.

Same! That's why I love the Seat Exeo.

476 litres boot space in the Focus, 580 litres in the Octavia

Didnt think there was that much of a difference. Maybe the Mondeo would be more suitable then.

I honestly hadn't considered anything from Ford but the figures speak for themselves. Thanks for the suggestion :)

No problem. We've had mostly Fords and Renaults in the family and had only one issue with a Ford and piles of them with Renaults haha.
