This is why you don't buy a 10 year old german super sedan over a new Camry:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
On the right are the plugs from cylinder 12. They look similar. However the residents from #12 are aged only 6,400 miles. Surprise! A closer look by the tech located valve stem seal leaks in #12 that appeared to be the cause. There were similar but less pronounced leaks in #11. The cost to replace all valve stem seals was quoted at a rate of roughly four semesters at community college. We passed.
Our test is now officially complete and it's time to sell. This CL65 could be yours. Go ahead, make us an offer. Please?
Total Cost: $4,586.72
Total Days Out of Service: 18
Note: abusing Carmax extended warranties Demuro style is still ok, if you want to spend the $3600+ for the warranty its clear you will get your money back (very quickly).

Agreed, those tavarish articles are pretty daft, I get that they're mostly for entertainment though. Theres repair costs, tax in some places (a large mercedes can be like 15 times more to tax than my car) insurance etc etc.

Sadly even the 20 year stuff (1995 model year) is loaded with proprietary parts and requires specialized tools (especially the fun German stuff).
Although logic goes out the window if you referring a e39 M5, because Want. Although those are a little outside the date window starting in 1998.

$9,200 in labor?? Did they have to call in a psychiatrist to diagnose the issue? WTF. I'm glad someone is pointing out the lunacy behind taking advantage of depreciation on some of these cars.

I bought a 93 325i for fun last year. It has been pretty easy to work on. No special tools yet.

Ha! I bought my E90 M3 almost 4 years used and thankfully caught the AC evaporator under original warranty. Would have been $3-4k. Been pretty solid otherwise. High running costs, but I knew that going in and made sure I could really afford the car before I bought it. Paid off my loan 3 years early, and I still have another year of an aftermarket warranty I picked up after I bought it. Might just have to re-up that for another year for peace of mind while the rod bearing issue sorts itself out a little more...

Had a Melbourne Red E90 M3, probably my favorite of the 3 M3's I have owned. Had two sensors go out on that under warranty- think it was over $1000 after labor. So warranty protection is a good thing. Although (aside from the rod bearing issue) most E90-E92s have been relatively solid cars (compared say to comparable Audis. . . .)
