Hey guys, I've had the fleeting desire to get a dashcam (being in MA and all) but have no idea what would make a good one. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! reminded me that "hey, I should probably look into this for real."
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So, help me Oppo. You're not my only hope but you're a damn good resource.

Here's my current setup:
Nabi Square HD
+
GoPro Drift Mount adapter
+
RAM Mount (GoPro style)
Throw in some accessories at your discretion and you can get an awesomely versatile setup.

I use an ojocam I got after it showed up on the daily deals page last year.

I had a similar one that quit working. It turned on like it was but didn't actually record. Didn't realize until I tried pulling up video of a crazy person that chased after me after I honked at them because they ran a red light in front of me.

My buddy has a simpler set-up that he uses his GoPro for on long trips.
Never actually seen him do it though...the mount is just stuck up there haha.

I know a few of us on here use these, myself included. Pretty basic and straightforward. MicroSD slot, records up to 1080p, quality is solid. I got mine for $50 so our posting and reviews may have driven up the price a bit.

Eh, mine works so far. Even if it dies on me, I can't complain. I've used it daily for over and year after getting it on sale for $50, haha.

Cool.
I have no idea when it comes do dash cams so I have to ask...it says automatically starts when car does. Does this mean it has to be connected to the outlet at all times or does it charge and run wirelessly, turning on due to an accelerometer?
Set-up in the FoST isn't conducive to wires.

I posted some first impressions of mine and I love it so far. Definitely worth the 50$. I like the screen I have so that I can see how it's aimed easily.

+1 on the G1W recommendation. Having researched dashcams for weeks on end, I keep coming to it. It's cheap, it has all the features you want in a dashcam, with good quality and good low light / night recording.
As for the auto on/off, you leave it plugged in (most people go for a longer power cable, and run it behind the A-pillar trim to make it more streamlined). When you turn on the car, the camera turns on. This feature and auto rewrite are probably two of the most important — between them you can set the camera in place and forget about it.

at first I was going to say don;t go with the GoPro. They are fairly expesinve and nFamousCJ's suggestions seems pretty reasonable. The I was thinking if you get the GoPro you could use it for a lot of other stuff like biking or rock climbing so the extra cost could be justified.

I've been tempted to get one but my buddy has one and we climb together so it would seem redundant.
Weighing options and likely go for a cheaper and dedicated dashcam if anything.

I've been outdoors a handful of times but the vast majority is indoor. I recently picked up part time hours at one. Lincoln Woods in RI has some good bouldering and this year my buddy got a sport climbing rope so he wants to get me to join him in Rumney, NH. We'd pair that with camping, too.
I don't have a bike but it's on my long list of things I want this year so under the probably wrong assumption that I'll get one that would lead to more excursions.

You can get piggy back fuses, you can run it from the glove fuse box up the a-pillar and under the edge of the headliner. Assuming you get one with a battery that lasts (my mini 803 battery is toasted, the 805/806 is supposed to have much better cooling) it will turn on when you start up the car.

Then again, there's also the G1WH, G1W-C, and G1W-CB. All updates on the original.

I've been meaning to do a reconnaissance mission through the Blue Hills area for some undiscovered bouldering...definitely needs to happen this summer.

I've been checking out satellite views every once in a while. There's a section about a quarter mile in behind the state trooper barracks near the pond that may have potential.

I put the papaGo one in my parents car. Works fine, they pull it down whoever they drive. I don't think they understand the purpose of a dash cam.

Anyone wanna recommend me one? It has to be cheap and has to run off a battery. (pulled the fuse for all interior nonsense in my Cav)
