I am bored at work, so forgive me if I go astray...
I was thinking about cars, because that's what I do from time to time. A picture from Speedhunters of a Miata modded to be a coupe popped up on my monitor as the background. It got me thinking, it seems I like to look at modded cars more. I have an interest in modified cars over stock, unmolested cars.
Now some cars should just not be touched. Aston Martins, Jaaaaaaags, and some other cars. Sure they look okay tastefully done, but almost 100% of the time, they are beautiful right out of the gate.
But then what about cars that are modified for function? Race cars? I guess they would fall under a different area in my brain. They are usually beautiful cars to begin with, but are tweaked to survive on the track. I guess they are modified too, but in a different way perhaps?
But I guess the Ricky Racer in me just won't die. I like modified cars. I just still want them to be functional, so no horrible camber for me thank you very much.
Hell, I will be getting a Lexus LS as my next daily driver at some point. I am all ready beginning to look at modifications for it. Body kits, exhaust, wheels, suspension of some sort...
Now I can appreciate the clean lines of a stock car. Or even the classics. Hell, I am a car guy!
Or even American classic muscle...
But I will always have a spot in my heart for something modified.
So where do you sit? There isn't a right/wrong answer, and honestly, I really don't care. :-) I'm just asking to see a discussion because I'm bored and have not written anything on Oppo in awhile.

I think my tastes (not what defines me as a car guy) are better served up as things I don't like:
cosmetic stance (high or low)
anything attached with 3M
umm...poor quality restorations.
lets see...
that may be it.
Its like food, I'm not a "burger guy" or a "taco guy" or whatever, I just like and dislike food of different flavors but I've got nothing on the people that like...for example... battery acid peanuts Thai food.

Car should be kept stock (or OEM) in the looks department, perfomance upgrades are welcome (no fucking LS/electrical swaps)

I love looking at modified commercial vehicles and run-of-the-mill passenger cars. There will not be a regular car that I own that will not be modified.
But super cars and the like? Only if it compliments the car's already awesome design. So...basically what Chris Brown and the Biebs do to their car? Hell no.

I was told I like any car that looks like a door wedge. The more flaps the better.

Anything can be made better. Anything can be made worse as well. Just depends on the mods.

I really like stock things. My dad like yelled me out of the two weeks where I was like, I want to modify my TL.
So factory sporty things like Lexuses' F cars, sport cosmetic packages on like the Sienna SE and Camry XSE are mah favorites.
Deep back in my mind I do have ideas on the Datsun 510 Wagon I plan on making in the future with my own money though.

I tend to dislike modifications that make a car or truck less functional or that are completely useless or over the top. Cars that are too low, trucks that are too high, massive wings, fake scoops, and body kits that do nothing other than add ugly are the main ones. Other than that I have no real objection to modifying and even if I don't like the particular mods in question I try to remind myself that it's not my car and not my call.

I like cars to be mostly stock, but have light modifications massaged in. Thus leaving the average passerby to think not realize that is not how it came from the factory.

I've always been more drawn to "attainable", or "everyman" cars. Japanese cars where my original passion for several reasons, 1 Fast and Furious, 2 NFS Underground 1, and 2, and lastly, I've always lived in an area where American cars were the default, they were common, they were what my parents drove , so foreign cars seemed more exciting, and special to me. However exotics, super cars, or ultra luxury cars really still do nothing for me.
and yes modified is almost always better. Oh and I love the 80's and 90's

what if the body is modified functionally like flared finders, hood vents/scoop, more actual aero(when done subtly on a street car)?

I prefer mainly for the vehicle to remain stock in appearance. Throw on a blower, tune it, upgrade suspension, convert to RWD if you feel like it. Putting a body kit or spoiler on it is no-go, unless they're functional (with notable exceptions, such as the last gen. Impala, which just looked beige normally, but with the subtle OEM spoiler actually looked quite good). However, subtle changes, changes that make it look immediately better even if you can hardly see what changed (think early last gen. Golf vs. Golf GTI) are fine by me.

I am for sure a modified car fan. Being a drag racing fan its more HP and suspension mods over visual. But now that I am older I am liking more appearance stuff.

I kind of like the look of it, but it was one of the first "LS460 body kit" images I saw, so I grabbed it.

I prefer useful modifications. Usually bod kits add nothing but drag, but some of them look good enough to over come that. But I digress, I'd prefer under hood and such modifications before I made it look any different. Then just blow the doors off other drivers.

I can appreciate stock cars, but I'll never own one completely stock for long. I modify all my cars. This is my way of personalizing the vehicles. I'm not into body kits, but am not averse to them either. Power and suspension on sports cars is a must. Creature comforts always. Race cars get aero and wheels and tires, too.
Sure the high-end cars I'm just trying to move will stay stock just because they're easier to sell that way. Of all the cars I've ever wanted, the only one I ever saw that if I ever got on (and I've been close a couple times) is a new BMW M6 Cabriolet - that car needs nothing changed or added to be perfect for my DD needs.... well maybe a tune.
That said, I'll still drool all over a well restored classic muscle car while secretly loving the restomod even more.

This is a twist on the topic, but why do you guys think that the Miata has to be modified to get the power it deserves? The Miata is widely acclaimed on Jalop, Opo, etc., as the go-to car for handling. Why do you think Mazda does not offer a 250+ hp version? I would love to hear your thoughts.
