My Fiat actually had a recall when it was a couple years old because of risk of firey death. Luckily mine has had that recall done. Apparently the abs unit would corrode and leak brake fluid onto hot things, making fire.

While being towed?
that's new. Maybe it was left on Park?

How does a non running car that's just being towed catch fire? Exhaust from the RV?

Left in gear or park or something towing related caught it on fire I bet.

Lol, tried towing it and forgot to leave the engine on with the transmission in neutral. I'm guessing that they just put it in neutral and after a few hours of no lubrication, finally got hot enough to light it.

They forgot to leave the engine on. If it's in neutral and the engine's off, there's no lubrication.

If they put it in neutral but didn't leave the car running, there will be no lubrication in the transmission.

You don't need to have the engine on? Never heard of that one before. I think they must have left it in gear, or it got knocked into gear.
EDIT: I schooled myself on four down towing. I wonder if that Fiat was an auto?

It would make sense.
So the solution would be to raise the front wheels? what about a RWD automatic car?

Oooh on a toad. I'm guessing a problem with the hookup. I wonder if it was a manual or auto.

You can flat tow a vehicle in neutral if you have Manuel Transmissione.
If you have a prindle you can only flat tow in neutral with the engine on.
Flat towing an automagic in neutral with engine off causes firey death.

That's what I'm guessing. Obviously, if it were a manual, this would be no problem. Most autos don't lubricate themselves unless the engine's running, which is why you're supposed to tow with it on.

Best option is always to keep the drive wheels off the ground since it's less wear and tear in general, but if it's unavoidable, the engine needs to be left on with the transmission in neutral.

Park has a physical wheel lock, so they wouldn't have gotten too far without noticing something wrong... or maybe the would. Hopefully it was a manual, no autos are cleared for 4 flat towing like that. In the RV world that position is for the "Toad" car.

I was never aware of that fact at all! I always wondered why it seemed like Those cars were on (its because they were!)

putting it on park and driving off in the RV wouldn't be the weirdest thing I saw related to an RV.
As Sideways mentioned, the car might have been an auto, and they let it in neutral with the engine off, which would stop all transmission lubrication, eventually leading to a fiery outcome.
