Sportscar365 is reporting that the latest to come out of talks between the FIA, ACO, and LMP2 manufacturers is a proposal regarding the possibility of a spec 4.0 V8 NA engine and only four chassis manufacturers for the 2017 LMP2 regulations, one of which has to be from North America. There's a total of ten manufacturers currently producing or developing chassis for the 2017 regulations. 2015 regulation cars would be legal for the 2017 season, as will current Daytona Prototypes be legal for the 2017 TUSC season. The grounds for this changes is said to be costs.

Surprisingly, IMSA would still allow multiple engine types under the 2017 regulations, and TUSC teams looking to compete at Le Mans would be allowed to, under a BoP.

Personally I see this as a huge threat to the current bloom in P2. It's outrageous. It'll be LMP3 with a P1 tub. But I wonder if the intention is to revive privateer LMP1?

you know what makes LMP racing so fun? no spec engines.. I mean yeas there are spec limits on what you can run, but it's not like every one runs the same engines. fuck spec racing.

I want to say good bye to this car!

The formula works well for Prototype Challenge and FLM but that's not the spirit of P2, which has really become the viable privateer P1 alternative. I have already accepted the fact that there won't be an overall win for a Privateer team unless Porsche lets people buy the 919; I don't see Audi, Toyota, or Nissan letting anyone play with their best toys.

P2s will still be around like they are now in the US, with multiple engines available. The DPs will be completely gone by 2018.

Yeah but I doubt that Mazda will still be running as they don't have a Skyactiv V8 and I dont think they want to fork over the budget to switch to P1 to keep the racing-production link.

They won't need a V8 in TUSC. Any engine will still be usable in North American P2s.

But this means that Mazda wont have a chance to bring their P2 to Le Mans, not that they would get an invite with its current performance but now there isn't even the pipe dream of doing that.

Did you even read the post? I said TUSC cars will be able to participate at Le Mans. Besides, the Mazda can't legally participate in ELMS, WEC, Le Mans, or AsLMS because under ACO rules, P2s cannot be diesel. Hell even if the engine was legal that Lola/Multimatic B12/80 chassis is ancient and is holding the performance back.

Sorry, I missed that one sentence, I still think it is a bad idea.
