My friend has a Fuego project but it has got so much "tax debt" that it's probably not going to return to the streets.

What exactly is "tax debt"?

Haha, the Fuego! Lovely design but there's a reason there's not many left...

In Finland we have to pay some yearly taxes. They aren't very high (except for diesel cars) but they have to be paid when the car is in road use. You can take take the car out of road use easily and then it cannot be used on the road until it is again taken in road use. This doesn't translate really well but it is just a data field in government's vehicle database.
The former owner thought that the vehicle was taken out of road use and my friend believed so. My friend didn't register the car as his name as he thought he didn't have need to hurry (this was actually his mistake). He stored the car for several years and neither he nor the former owner realized that the unpaid taxes were piling up for the car.
When they realized the situation the amount of taxes was rather large and the car hadn't progressed much. Now they both think that the other is to be blamed and the situation is unlikely to be solved.

Ouch! Right in the wallet.

I had one VW that had minor amount of tax debt but it was stolen just before I paid them. The car was later found totally stripped and destroyed.

Better then paying then having it stolen.

My grandmother had a golden Gordini version of that car. She loved it and garaged it constantly. She got rid of it after she lent it to my aunt and her boyfriend, they took it to a track, ruined the motor mounts, and my grandmother couldn't find anyone that stocked replacements.

Yep. It would have been even more annoying.
It looked like this when it was found. Sadly it was crushed without letting me to save some spares. I had just swapped a stiffened rear axle before it was stolen and the thieves hadn't spotted that one.

Same applies to most other cars of that era though.
This Carina, for example.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 09:38 |

But that Carina could easily survive 10+ years, although the Japanese were prone to corrosion as well. Renaults of that era were 'designed' to survive only 5 years so people would buy a new one. Renault admitted doing this back then years after it. Seriously. When was the last time you saw a Renault 14? They've sold about a million of these!

Got a friend currently on a over-seas-contract-thing through Chrysler to design for Alfa (I know right? talented asshole). But an Alfa designer drives one of these. How cool is that?

Meet the Allegro. 642,340 made and only 291 left in the UK and a few elsewhere. Like the Renault, they were disposable.

Full size version of that last photo? Would love to blow that up on a poster for my room!

On second thought, full size for all of them? Haha

Haha, I will never argue with that one! That 'AA' badge is so extremely well put and needed on this one. Doesn't matter if it's the automotive organization or the other 'AA' in whose program you'll probably end up when you own one of these.

Unfortunately they are all stolen from facebook so the expand is as big as they get :/

That's pretty neat, but you realize we're all pretty much obligated to hate him now.

I have never seen a body design that screams "I should be RWD"more than this one.

You're not alone, I did call my friend an asshole in my post.

You tell that lucky son of a bitch he better be working on a new RWD GTV and it better be amazing and it better be coming state side... Or else!
![]() 02/25/2015 at 10:45 |

Haha, I'll tell him. But ya know a RWD sedan has pretty much already been confirmed.

GTX 2 Litres!
How cool is that?
Extremely Cool! One of the few that actually survived!

Wrong:
;-)

Yeah, you one upped me with that one.
I have actually driven one of those Lotus convertibles and I must say, for a FWD car that thing really handled.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 11:44 |

Same here: I was very impressed, if not simply frightened, with it's cornering speed. But in the end you're just better off with RWD, especially with that torquey turbo. Quick, you still can have these for cheap!

Darn it! thanks anyway

Ah … well I have to imagine they're working on one, but I have no info on that.

Damn it milky.. couldn't you just lie to me.. one small beautiful lie to save what we have left in this relationship.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 12:24 |

I literally know nothing of the car, but sounds like it might be a rare survivor then?
![]() 02/25/2015 at 12:40 |

The Fuego is from an era in which Renault intentionally didn't care about durability. This way people were forced to buy a new car now and then. Seriously, they admitted doing this after a while. Renault 18, 14 and Fuego (which is some sort of 18 Coupé): you never see one around anymore. And that 14: Nearly one million have been produced so you'd expect to run into one once in a while? But... You simply don't.

Our love is too real for me to lie to you. I just can't bring myself to do it.
