"mazda616" (mazda616)

It has 304,942 miles. And its last oil change was in March of 2014 at 291,000 miles. Say what you want about these cars being boring, but they are tanks. For sure.

Absolutely. A good comparison would be with an HVAC compressor- you never think about it or even really look at it, but it sits outside by itself working away for 20-3o years at a time without any fuss and is always there when you need it.

As boring as they are, I kind of like the older 90s and before ones. They're honest.

Here is a 1.8T B5 A4 Avant with 230,000 miles.

If you maintain any car well, it'll pay you back.

There's something about the earlier ones, where there's little enough to them that you can really appreciate the quality of the engineering that went into them. Of course, I may be a little biased on that front at the moment.

Mine's almost ten years older and has roughly quarter of a million miles fewer on its clock. It's nice to know it has a way to go yet, even if it will probably be fifty by the time it gets anywhere near there, if it ever does.

Yeah, but I think the point with this is, you can maintain it like shit and it will still keep kicking.

I absolutely agree. I drive a 1997 with just under 288,000 miles and it is just like a tank. Even with my slightly heavy foot and my brother's speedy mentality this car just goes along with it. Granted it is not that fast but if you push it it will try its best.

I still occasionally miss our 99. I wouldn't mind picking one up again at some point.

It's because you barely see them on the road, so they're unique.

Somebody must have really loved that Avant though. Still looks great, cars with half the mileage are rarely that nice looking.
How's ze A6 Avant been treating you?

secondary air pump is going out
compressor clutch is making noise
water pump is leaking
right CV boots are torn
headlights are all foggy
center LCD is fading
lumbar adjustment failed
passenger window doesn't work
change holder and park brake wood trim has come off
Condenser fan makes noise
passenger rear seat fold down handle is broken
brake down triangle cover is broken
needs wipers
...all while slow as balls :]
I have a date with the US Embassy next week for my wife's immigration interview. Soon she will live here with me.

Thanks buddy :] I'm sure some DB9 wipers will fit the front and W204 wagon rear wiper will fit the back. I'll just charge them on a shop ticket tomorrow if I don't forget :]

a 2015 Base Corolla with an auto seems like heaven to me. Anything similar to that would be, Jetta, Sentra, Cruze. I'd take it in beige with a cassette player!!! A reliable brand new car with a warranty and maintenance plan? Gimmie gimmie!!!!

Around here, they're like sorta all gone, except in the winter when they're used as second/third/fourth cars.

Nah. Those are like $22-24k at showrooms. Base Fiesta, base Crayola, base Civic, or base Elantra. Polos are ok. I've rented them a couple times in Mexico DF, but that would be my last choice. 0% of WRC goes into a civilian Polo. Plus, they don't sell them here. But they are roomy and beautifully/painfully basic. I like that. But a $200 car note for 5 years would be hell for me. I always though by the time I had my first home, married, dream job that I would be well off. LOL, nope... all of the nopes! Good thing I have years of penny pinching practice. I'm a multi brand master tech and certified with various high end brands at the dealership level..... yet, sometimes the dollar menu is difficult lol. Fuck it, it builds character. Puts hair on your peaches!

There's one parked in my driveway, was what I meant :)
They were rare here to start with, so mine's pretty much a unicorn. I looked it up when I bought it, and there were a few dozen left on the road in the entire country.

Saloon cars have never been as popular here, so there weren't many to start with. However, it may be rare, but it's still an eighties Camry...
