many people exaggerate everything weighing "a ton!" Not really an excuse but I would probably make the same mistake if ever on the Late Show being interviewed. One of those self face palm moments. I do those a lot when nervous.

2,240. Everyone knows that, although not seemingly in America.
16oz = 1lb
14lbs = 1 stone
8st = 1cwt
20cwt = 1 ton.
Simple.

Because we don't use metric/long tons (which are a perverted measurement anyway).
2000lbs for life.

Metric tonnes and imperial tons aren't quite the same, they differ by a bit over 1%.
It seems illogical that America would use a round number for the number of pounds in a ton when they otherwise adopt measurements that are as arcane as possible.

Haha, but it is totally arcane (and awesome)! It was the weight of liquid that would fill a tun. A tun was ~250 gallons but weren't really precision measured so the actual weight was anywhere between 1850-2150 lbs. May as well randomly pick 2000 as anything else.
