Daily driving the TinyTohruTruck sucks. No cruise control, no cup holders, the cab is too small to stretch out and be comfortable, it rides like an empty 1 ton dually, it won't idle, it whistles over 55mph, and the heater controls are fiddly.
I sold Project $300 because it was a basket case, but I'm starting to think I had the right idea, just the wrong car. I've been thinking of what I actually want to live with as a salesman everyday, and put together a list :
Interesting, yet reliable.
Coupe, sedan, wagon, or 2dr SUV.
At least 150hp.
Automatic.
Cruise control.
Power windows and door locks.
Decent usable cup holders.
Under $2000
Under 200,000 miles.
20mpg or better.
Any ideas?

20th or better?
But yeah cupholders are the most important part of the car! I'm surprised you didn't put one grille as one of your requirements :p
How about a Volvo S40 or V40? They are awesome.

Fucking autocorrect. 20mpg or better. My parents had a Volvo 740 Turbo. It got bad mileage and ate distributors.

GTFAC, while using lemon juice and salt for lubrication.

The S40/V40 doesn't have a distributor. It's coil on plug, and it does get at least 20 mpg :)

And I said Reatta. GO FORTH AND FIND ANOTHER.

I was leaning towards Caprice over Panther, because cam-in-block > timing chains. Having never owned a Panther, what makes them better than a 91-96 Caprice?

Caprice wagon? You can opt for LT1 versionsif you feel like dealing with optisparks.

Having owned a '98 in this exact color, that had over 200k miles and still ran super strong, I agree with this. HOWEVER, the person selling this one is wrong. It's anywhere from a 1997-2000. Modern Mazda crest excludes it from being a '95-'96, and they underwent a refresh for the 2001-2002 model years. The newest this could be is a 2000.
Regardless, it would be a good purchase. Just watch the rust creeping in. It's a common issue in these cars, but don't let it spread further.

nothing besides being able to find a newer one. by dad had both a caprice classic and a crown vic and they were both ox of bricks reliable, slow, and comfy.

I feel like automatic and 150HP just don't go well together. I see no issues with an automatic when there is enough power. Anything under 200HP is just going to feel so robbed of power with an auto. But either way, I think panther platform fits this bill very well!

I think it would be personal preference honestly. Like jsmizira commented, you can find a newer one but they are pretty similar really. I like how both of them looked but I inherited my Vic from my grandma so that's how I ended up with mine.

My 1976 Oldsmobile Delta 88 was rated for just 170hp... and close to 300 ft/lbs of torque. I'm pretty sure a 2000 Grand Am with the 3.4l has to be around 150hp.
My truck only has 90hp.

I feel that a diesel Mercedes would have less horsepower than my truck.

I have to wait for tax return money - I'm a broke motherfucker.
I do appreciate you looking, and it is a good find. It's going to be really slow though, right?

TORQUE FOR DAYS in the olds! Haha, I will always find that torque is way more interesting than horsepower. Sidetracked, but yeah you have a point. I just feel so bad about my previous Honda with an autobox that I literally would have kept it forever if it had been a manual. The 100 HP on a good day never fared well with a 4-speed auto.

Either a B-Body or W-body.
Just make sure if it's a W-body it has the 3800.
If you're willing to forgo interesting just get a Civic or Accord or something reliable but has all that stuff you want.
