Just ordered a set of Sumitomo HTRs for the MR2 for $47 a pop. Not the greatest tires out there but when you're working with 14 inch wheels there's no actual summer tire option you've got to take what you can get. Plus, the Sumitomos are widely regarded as the best in terms of "performance" short of Direzzas or Azensis in the 14 inch range and as I'm not using the MR2 for autocross and driving it through rain and such there's no way to justify them.

I've got the same ones on my car, and for what I paid for them, I couldn't be happier!

They cost less than half of what Direzzas or Azensis would run and are far from an actual cheapo tire, its kind of a no brainer

I second this purchase, I had these tires on the Chevy Prizm I use to daily and they were surprisingly capable. Many a tight corner was apexed at unsafe speed and they never gave any indication of stress. Yes, they were a different size, but the compound and tread seemed excellent for the price.

Sometimes its not a matter of getting the best. I put Eagle F1 Asymmetrical 2 Summers on my WRX last year. I could have put Pilot Super Sports but for what I wanted I got a very good tire, comparable to to the SS but saved like $200+.

I ran those on my XT-6. They were very good on that car. I thought they were a 195/60 on a 14" rim. Also drove them in the winter in Montana on the XT, because XT.

Hmmm I might get a set too! I've got a mismatched set of relatively new off-brand all-seasons and I kind of want a matching set of summers. Or not summers but performance tires anyway

Great choice. I had those on my very first car as well. A 1991 Mercury Tracer LTS; think Escort sedan, but with that hideous Mercury lighted grill and the 1.8L Mazda engine with a 5-speed manual. God that car was fun.

I gave up before those tires would.

$47 per tire? I wish!

This is me looking at the prices of proper all-terrain tires for my 4Runner:

I also have to get 18s for my 325ci track car and 16s for my 318ti autocross car so it's always a nice change of pace getting regular tires for the MR2

4 matching tires, straight ... you're doing better than probaby 80 percent of people on the road.
