Welcome to How Low Will it Go? In this game we will try to predict the low point of a cars depreciation curve. Keep in mind we cannot predict inflation rates, therefore keep all predictions in 2015 dollars. Enjoy and good luck!
On today's episode of HLWG we be guessing the depreciation (if any) of a brand new car! The Charger Hellcat really needs no introduction. 707hp, all for 60,000 dollars. But since it is a 4 door will the Hellcat be worth less many than the Challenger cousin? You decide in the comments below!

I imagine $30,000 lowest.

Probably like $50. Maybe $75 for one that still has tires.

24,000$
17,000 for a salvage, based on motor alone.

The four doors hurts it in future value. It all depends on the condition. Good examples will be worth good money, but rough runners in 30 years time I could see go just under 10k.

$35-40k
I don't see Dodge carrying on Hellcating things for very long, boosting the collectablity of these

It seems to me that muscle cars most always go down before they go up - it's like a light goes on and collectors think - well, they're not making those anymore. So in 5 years, I think they'll be around 1/2 what they sold for - in 15 or 20 years they'll fetch ... 20 or 30 percent more than they cost?

That engine is pretty phenomenal.

I think so too. I don't think this will deprecate much.

The Hellcat line is future Hemi line of Dodge. One day they will be worth their weight in gold. Thats why I agree deprecation will likely be very low.

Really? I wasn't imagining that low. That would be the performance bargain of the century.

Seems like a pretty accurate guess. But frankly I see them going up in value even more. Similar to the Hemi line from 1970.

You don't think a factor of a thousand is much?

In the grand scheme of car values plummeting and rising 10k isn't very much for a 60k car.

I'm guessing around 20,000.

i think he's saying fifty dollars. not 50 thousand.
and while that's probably overshooting. i think these will hit a very serious nadir before rebounding. likely in the teens. they may rebound a bit when some of you young guys hit middle age, have disposable cash, and start to drive the prices back up. same as happened with the 60s-70s muscle. and as we're starting to see with the 80's exotics.

Well I'm seeing a long depreciation curve for these things. Its gonna take a while for them to recover and a lot of them once they hit their third, fourth, and fifth owners aren't gonna treat them nicely. So in 20 years the value just won't be there, but that's rock bottom, after that they will rebound nicely.

i think youre being a bit generous here. agree on the 1/2 in 5-10 years. but i think after that in the 10-20-year time frame they'll dip significantly. likely to 15-20% original price. then the light will likely go on for those collectors and you'll see the price increases. but that wont be until 30-40 years from now.
the 4 doors will mean they'll fetch less than a comparable challenger. also, because most (because of the 4 doors) will have bought these for some practical use, there will be far fewer garage queens. so maybe that will drive the price even further up? or maybe not. my crystal ball is a bit cloudy today.

I guess I just assumed he was making a typing error. My bad Sideways!
I guess I just don't seem them decreasing that much because they will likely be low volume and the grail of the Dodge lineup.

After the first round of owners gets done with it, I see them dipping into the mid $20s in a few years, where Tavarish can write an article about "For the price of a new 2024 Ford Forgettable, you can have this insane 707-HP family sedan!"
But that'll be for a rough runner. Even the lowest-end Challenger RT has been able to keep more than 50% of its value over five years, and while you can get an 06 Charger RT for ~$6000 or so, it'll likely be the ticking time bomb soon in need of a rebuild due to failed cylinder deactivation, or a rough runner.

Not sure about the four door component either. I grew up in the 70s so I'm familiar with all that numbers-matcing has-to-have-the-original-factory-sticker-on-the-fuel-tank nonsense, and I don't know how applicable that is to a modern car. And I think it's mostly dependant on how many are left when the enthusiast switch is flipped, and on how many they make in the first place. Fuelie Vettes are revered because there are so few (sorry). I think very few buyers are going to use one for the school run, despite its having four doors. Your crystal ball is cloudy, and my tea leaves went down the sink when I washed the cup. Tarot cards anyone?

I didn't know they had cylinder deactivation. Also while 20k could grab you a bad one I could see a good one going a bit higher and therefore you need not worry of failing parts. Right away at least.

The 5.7 hemi has it — the SRT cars don't. My boss traded his wife's 06 Charger R/T with 170k miles for a new Accord after the second head rebuild due to cylinder deactivation going kaput.
