What's more aerodynamic, wing-mounted mirrors or door-mounted mirrors? GT6 for your time + slight relevance...

Door mirrors should be more aerodynamic because they're less exposed to incoming air.

I don't know. You add a lot of surface area that way, even if you don't add much frontal area.

According to Pagani, ones that stick out about a foot from the car.

I just wanted to an excuse to post this ridiculous looking car. It's the only thing I've ever seen that's done it, so I'm sure it's not the most aerodynamic.

Depends on the overall shape of the car. The Area Rule doesn't just apply to planes.

I'm under the impression that the more clean air you can give a component, the better it will perform aerodynamically within its purpose. Therefore I vote wing mounted.

Good Lord is that thing weird. Is/was that a Laguna?

Gotcha. The overall shape of the car is almost identical to the one pictured above. Just guessing, but I think door-mounted would be shielded a bit by the front wings...

There are never enough excuses to post it. I think it's beautiful, even if most people disagree.

Nope. Nissan Autech Stelvio. It's actually a 1 of 100 or 200 super car bodied by Zagato, so in theory it should be awesome. It's just so funky looking though.

It's certainly interesting to behold.

My instinct is to disagree. They're right in the "dumping area" on the side where the car is trying to get rid of all the front-of-windshield air and increase the overall cross-section where they really shouldn't - i.e. where it's hugeungous.

It doesn't matter, wing-mounted mirrors are cool but useless. You will absolutely definitely want the maximum amount of all-round vision in the Spit, so don't even think about wing-mounted mirrors with their smaller FOV and vibration issues.

Please for the love of god and not looking like an idiot, don't ever say this again. The area rule is used in aircraft design to reduce drag (mostly wave drag) at TRANSONIC/SUPERSONIC speeds. The only cars where this is even applicable are the ones attempting to break the land speed record.

I wondered whether or not I should answer this, but...
I did some research because of your comment (yes I should have done that first). The rule has been used in vehicles as slow as F1. It would still apply to road cars, but the amount of gain from it is nowhere near worth bothering about.
And with that, I will take your advice about not mentioning it.
