First MX-3 I've ever seen, with the 1.8l V6, and it's dumped in a scrapyard.

I've wanted to do an engine swap in a NA Miata with the v6 from the mx-3 for a while now. Something about small displacement for larger cylinder count appeals to me, even better if they have high red line.

the Mazda k v6 (1.8 and 2.5 + others maybe) is canted, and won't fit. I think someone tried this once and burnt out the motor when they tilted it vertical. When I read that same thread, there was mention of using the Suzuki "H" v6 as it is designed for rwd (grand vitara) and is very similar to the Mazda in architecture.
I had a v6 MX-3. Took it to 275000 km, and all it ever needed beyond normal maintenance was rear calipers and struts. I drove it like I stole it for years. Was faster, and maybe quicker than a 289 mustang I used to have. There was a cam chain rattle and when the car was under 100k and still had warrantee I asked Mazda to fix it. They wouldn't. I proceeded to drive it around in 3rd at redline for a couple weeks trying to get it to blow. I never did. I put another 175000 Kms on it after that.
Non "car guy" friends still reminisce fondly about that car.

It's one of those builds that I would probably never do, just something I've thought about once or twice.

Save the engine!

To prevent oil starvation, I believe the oil pickup+oil pan needs to be modified for the longitudinal upright mounting for RWD, it's a seemingly simple mod that could save the engine.
As for these Mazda V6s, my father owned a '94 MX-6 with the 2.5 V6. He loved that thing to bits and it was amazing, (despite only having 165 HP and 160 lbft) with no major issues, he often reflects on how he loved it, it handled like a dream, got on power like nothing else. He sold the Mazda and bought the Jetta I'm currently driving 11 years ago.
