Well, it's snowing here in North Carolina (read: occasional flurries) and the world has stopped. As a yankee transplant, it still amazes me how a few flakes and a bit of ice can paralyze a state's economy.

I guess it boils down to a lack of preparedness — both on the part of municipalities and individuals.

Either way, it's a great excuse to hoon around in the wintry mix.

So here is the Saab in it's natural habitat — snow covered.

All hail the Swedish snow plow.

Preparedness, and a lot of risk from temperature swings. If anything and everything can melt partly and turn to ice before it's possible to clear, You're Gonna Have A Bad Time. I'm in the NC mountains/foothills myself, and I'd say twisties and hills are also as big a problem as anything - here anyway.

I'm in the triangle and you are right - we are having refreezing and black ice form from the evening temp drops.

I'm also from the north and I was amazed when my friends in GA said they cancelled school and closed business for 1 inch. It hit two and people were abandoning their cars on the highway. Saab is always a good snow choice

I had the same feeling when I moved to NC 15 years ago. The weather man hyped up a coming "blizzard." Being a Western New York transplant myself, I awoke expecting nothing less than 2-3 feet. Instead, I got 1-2 inches. Much disappointment was had.

On the plus side, I have enjoyed fishtailing my 98' B2500 in the snow on demand over the last couple days.

Both my wife and I work in public ed. — we've been out of school since Tuesday.
