Okay, we all know Rowan Atkinson's McLaren F1 is for sale by now. David Clark's 'Taylor & Crawley' is responsible for selling it and they've put a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Nice promo.

That is a treat. For serious.

Next episode: Mr. Bean Sells a Car...Better than you can.

I always think it's silly when cars are held at an increased value because they were owned by a celebrity. Something like Hitler's Mercedes is cool because of history, but when I see "This McLaren F1 was owned by the one and only, Rowan Atkinson!" all I can think is, "Neat, but I just came for the car".

Thats a really cool sale brochure... But you'd think they could have got a better picture of the watch.

You can easily tell which headlamp is older than the one replaced in its recent crash....

I don't think I agree on this one. Every one of the 64 McLarens F1 produced will cost you dearly, it doesn't matter if it's owned by mr Bean or not. It's a one-owner car but hey: that owner crashed it twice. I'm not sure this one will be worth more than other F1s sold recently: the Hartley (ever heard of him?) F1 did $5.5 million dollars already. 3 years ago.
But that brochure is awesome ;-)

I think I agree. Totally.

Haha, he did set a record with that one.

Oh it's an awesome brochure, I just prefer the owner to not have a bearing on whether the car is more valuable than any others of the same type. Also, it looks very straight for having been destroyed twice. Also, it's estimated to hit $12 million.

I just came for the car
I literally just did!
..
..
sorry, had to do it

Estimated? The guy' asking-price 12. And it hasn't been sold yet, in a highly booming rare supercar market with prices skyrocketing the last couple of years. Don't get me wrong: I think we agree for the most part of it. But in the end I don't think it will sell for way more than any other F1 in the same condition because of the Bean-factor.

That color really is something special on that car.

As my mother always told me I was 'special' as well, I don't know if you're being serious. ;-)
Personally I'm not a fan of grey/silver cars but I've always loved the McLaren best in the color it was introduced in:
Or orange. Of course.

I bet you are "special," but I was serious about the burgundy. You're right about the silver. A while ago I read that orange is the least chosen color for a car in America, so I like orange, too. My last Le Car was orange.

I actually like the BurgundyThat McLaren in Orange isn't so bad either.
For years white cars were banned in the Netherlands. I was dedicated to find a GP White 911 though. White cars often accentuate the cars profile, bends en lines. Nothing to big though. My first good white 'experience' was a 205 GTI 1.6.

The orange is perfect for that car, actually. It's just the right shade. Why did they ban white cars? That sounds so weird. In America, every other car is white. No one wants to stand out. I even drive a white pickup because it was the only color around. The 205 actually looks good in white because of that red accent line. I recently found out a guy near me has one and I have to figure out a way to get him to let me drive it.

Well, 'banned' probably is what harsh, it wasn't by law or anything. But there was this rule 'Met een WITTE blijf je ZITTEN' in carsales. Freely translated: 'You'll get stuck with that white trade-in for quite some time'. Background of this was probably the fact no-one wanted the car that appeared to be the cheapest and plain white was always non-metallic so there you go.
That 205 looked awesome in white! And you should definitely get him to let you drive it because it's awesome. Maybe just get some yellow bulbs if he doesn't have them already, for that ultimate French look!
By the way: There's a Fuldameeting the 19th of june near Düsseldorf!

Oh, well that attitude about white cars I understand. They are always the cheapest. I thought there was some weird thing where the Dutch thought white cars were unsafe, or evil or something. I can see outlawing them in, like, Finland because they become invisible in blizzards. Another point for orange cars. They're never invisible.
I just saw the Fulda Friends Meet on the DWAC page. That's awesome. It looks like there's also a Goggomobil/microcar meet the same weekend? And then another one a month later? That list makes me want to move to Europe. There's a microcar meet practically every weekend. Anyway, I'm going to see if I can make it in June. I'll keep you posted.

If the banning was by law the only reason could be that white was either:
Bad for the environment, or
Bad for the government's tax-income
Haha, Europe must be some kind of heaven to you!!!

I think we should start a campaign that white paint is toxic to the ozone layer. Of course, by reflecting sunlight, they may help with global warming.
European cars are my heaven, so yeah. Although, not enough Pacers as we've learned.
![]() 02/20/2015 at 04:46 |
|
I think we need to do that, that ozone-layer angle is pretty cool. Maybe we could prevent our M35-buyers from making this mistake by offering it only in Black. Or grey like the original one. Maybe some radar-absorbing paint like the USAF uses on it's F-117?
To cover that Pacer-Problem (I love alliterations, could you tell?) we Europeans we invented the... 928! It even was European Car of the year in 1978!!!
I've put another Heuliez-special online for French Friday !
![]() 02/20/2015 at 12:43 |

Radar proof paint is perfect. In addition, maybe the car can have its own radar. More effective than a backup camera.
Well, hopefully I'll find out today whether or not the 928 is truly a European design.

Or a Flamethrower. Or a shovel. Offense is best defense!
I can't wait for this. I so hope this 'lead' leads to anything.

If Rolls Royce can equip their cars with an umbrella, we can one up them with a shovel. Great idea. Maybe a sledgehammer, too, for when someone parks too close.
Yeah, I'm really curious to find out what Hans will tell me. I'm not sure what else to ask him. He's head of modeling at Volkswagen. I should try and get a scoop.

Or a Wrecking-Ball!!!
Maybe try and figure out if VW finally plans something sporty and dynamic. Like that 2005 Eco Racer. I really liked that one.
