I'd by lying if I said I wasn't at least a little bummed, but it appears to be going to an enthusiast and a car guy. Which is a good result.

Glad she's going to a good home. Guess it's time to update your screen name...

Care to share your sale price?

I think that's the buyer's information to share or not share (and he is on jalopnik from time to time). I think we were both satisfied with the price.

Selling something else! But if an E28 M5 dropped into my lap in decent condition I would at least, you know, take it on a date.

Completely agree with that position. You've got to tell him to get on Oppo and do a write-up for us! He must be on cloud nine.

What was he driving prior?

ah man, I'd set it free with my butt in the drivers seat and my right foot on the floor :)

Ha! Great little car, by all accounts, but the fact that he's willing to let it go says something. I think he's selling at the perfect time - before the M2 drops.

Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you'll get an early drive in one of those? So many guys on the E9x boards seem much more excited about that car than the F8x.

True, I hope the 1M bubble bursts soon so I can scoop one up in a few years.

And YES! I am also very very excited. For some reason, I'm also more excited for the M3 than I was for the F80, but then again it's the new, and the green grass on the neighbors lawn.

I wish I had bought one. Can't beat the lack of depreciation on the 1M. Not many cars you can put 30k miles on and sell for close to what you paid for it or higher.

Will be interesting to see what happens with prices.

The 2-series just seems "right sized" for a sporty BMW. The M235i getting much more critical acclaim than the M3/4 clearly points to that.

We all know how opinions are, but the people I know of who like the 1M (many of whom are BMW insiders) don't think the M2 will really be a replacement per se.

Only the buyer actually came to look at it. I'd say the interest was bimodally distributed between utter morons and people who were serious, wanted a 1M, and wanted a very good one with no stories.

Other than EPS vs. a good-old hydraulic rack, what are the major differences between the two?

And that was nearly 3x as much new.

Pontiac G8 GXP, maybe?

I think they are tuning it to be less brutal, and it's certainly not going to be limited production. Other than the motor, the 1M had a lot of the E9X M3 drivetrain parts, and so was in many respects a lot of the good parts of that car in a smaller package. I think the M2 is not going to carry over that approach, but I could be wrong. Also I doubt the interior will be as nice.

But who knows? I'm an unrepentant BMW fanboy and I hope that the M2 is totally awesome. And they get the EPS tuning right. (I LOATHE BMW's EPS - and it's really annoying since Porsche somehow gets it right.)

The more time that passes, the more I appreciate the goodness of my naturally-aspirated, manual-transmissioned, hydraulically-assisted, four-doored wundersaloon, and am determined to keep it (or one of her siblings) forever. =)

Especially now that pretty much all automakers (even Porsche and Ferrari!) are turning to turbocharging and EPS to meet governmental restrictions, not because they want to, but because they feel like they have to.

I agree. As I noted above, if I get another car in the near term it will probably be an E28 M5. But I also miss my E39 M5 (although I think you can't go back). Then again, there was a beautiful blue F550 that I saw the other day - man those are nice.

I'd love to have an E28, E34 or E39 someday. I like to think of my car as the spiritual successor to the E39 M5 since they're very similar in size and format, even though the character of the two engines is quite different.
