I wish we had these in the States. Think of them as another step up from an STi.
S201
S202
S203
S204
S205 aka R205
S206
The Legacy S cars
S401
S402
The S402 is one of my ultimate dream cars.

Hmm, never heard of them! I thought I saw a unicorn when I went to Pike's Peak in '03, or maybe it was '04 and I saw the 22B they brought over from Japan to run the Mountain.

I remember seeing a 22b for sale in the states on ebay a few years ago. It was brought over under show and display, and had been kept in a sealed chamber since purchase. If I could have afforded it I would have bought it and drove it every chance I got.

I consider myself a Subaru fan and I never heard of these. Very interesting.

Yeah since most don't exist outside of japan they are super rare. The only other country that got them was New Zealand. I'm sure that all could actually apply for show and display imports because they only made about 300 of each.

New Zealand has traditionally been Subaru's strongest market globally in %share terms, though the actual volume is pathetic since we're so small. It's probably been driven by us having lots of hills, lots of weather, and back in the 70s and 80s, lots of gravel roads. There was therefore a strong demand in rural communites for something a bit more civilized than a Hilux but a bit more capable than a Commodore.
We have also traditionally been their leading market in developing the zeitgeist. Subaru's serious attack on global rallying was arguably driven by the success of Kiwis piloting Leones, and later Legacies, in the Asia-Pacific champs, and the idea that "outdoorsy sporty types drive Legacy wagons" was accepted truth in NZ for a good decade before they started using it globally as an advertising theme. We even had their only assembly facility outside Japan for a while in the 80s.
As a consequence, we've been offered most of the good versions, with the exception of a few of the UKDM Prodrive specials. S cars, 22Bs, RS-RAs, all that stuff was just normal dealer spec here. Plus our relaxed personal import laws mean that JDM versions of most brands tend to make their way here in reasonable numbers.

There was a S201 for sale here in Auckland a while ago surprisingly cheaply. As a Subaru fan, i'd love to own one, but jeez does it have a chin on it!
I make do with just having the same wheels on my GC8. Same size as the original wheels, but MUCH lighter

A WRB Legacy wagon was also a dream of mine....
