I interned at the offices of a manufacturing company this summer, and I got so many funny looks when I told people that I really wanted to learn to drive the forklift. I never did get to : (

That's a crying shame, they're really fun. They've got some serious get-up-n-go, and suicide knob + rear wheel steering = good times for everybody. It's like a zero turn lawnmower times 3.

This forklift

Has the same engine as my truck, but tuned for LPG...true story.

Forklifts are a blast. I was certified at Lowe's in driving one.

One time after hours I was bringing lumber from the back stock area to the front of the store along with two other employees also on forklifts... Needless to say after we did our jobs Forklift Drag Racing happened.. And it was amazing.

I used to drive a big diesel marine forklift at the marina where I worked for a while. 14,000 pounds lift capacity, lifting boats up 30 ish feet into a steel rack building. Also, launching and hauling boats out of the water, down a ramp where you literally had to drive the forklift into the water.

it was fun, but not when you had to do it all day in 90 degree heat... you spend a lot of time in reverse, with the heat of the engine spilling back into your face. Plus when the brakes were wet they didn't work very well, which was a lot of the time. Did I mention lifting boats that almost tipped the machine over? Always an adventure...
