Hey Oppo! I want some advice on this. Here is a very sexy Audi R8 for your time

Kinja'd!!!

Anyway, a friend of mine had a friend who let a different friend (a "friendly" situation, amirite?) drive this 1991 Honda Accord in which ran into a curb and then was parked. Well, now the car's status is abandoned because my friend's (now former) friend doesn't want the car, and the dude that was driving it dropped off the face of the earth. Well, my friend's former friend is now in jail and this car has been left to rot. Since they are getting bugged at by neighbor's and apartment staff, they want to sell the car to me without a title. I'm worried about getting this car mostly because I don't want to be flagged for theft. I know the car will never make it on the road again, BUT I want the parts on the car. I could easily swap over a ton of parts from this Accord to my Accord. Let me point out what:

bodywork in decent condition (typical CB7 rust problem happening)

EX model meaning the F22A4 (more aggressive cam and more power)

5 speed manual

EX wheels with brand new tires

So, this car seems really tempting. I want to part out what I want and scrap the car into recycling or whatever. Is this car reeking of trouble and filled with red flags, or is this car a dud waiting to be picked for parts?

Whatever state you are in check that states version of DMV.

There may be a section in there for it. Like lost or defaced title to get a new one.

At the very least, from the seller. You generally need some proof of ownership to scrap what's left (e.g. title) and your state may take a dim view on somebody else's engine showing up under the hood without papers.

I know in WA the registered owner just had to go to the DMV and tell them the title was lost. Then sign an affidavit of loss and everything is legal. You can even sell the vehicle on the affidavit and the title gets sent to the new owner.

If you have the space and the time to strip it for parts, go for it. But you should get a sweet deal since this is also saving your friend's ass...

If it were me though I'm not touching with a ten foot pole.

If your parting it out a bill of sale should be fine. But once you try and scrap it some places require you to have a title if you are scrapping a vehicle

Check with your local DMV. Laws vary from state to state.
