Kinja'd!!!

Does anyone know of a good jack and jack stand set up? I've been looking to get one soon so I can put in my new shocks and struts, but I have no idea what to look at.

I'm not looking to get a top of the line set as I don't want to spend a lot, but I don't want something with poor quality. I've looked but I'm having trouble deciding between what I should and shouldn't get. Thanks for any help!

It'll need to support my Mach and my dad's 2014 GT.

Also, I'm looking at batteries. I think I know what I'm going (Durlast gold) with but if anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.

I use an interstate battery and my race team has an old optima yellow top that still works great after 5 years.

As for jack stands I wouldn't go cheap because if they fail your in trouble.

I have harbor freight jack stands. The quality is fine but they are a little too tall for cars with lowish ground clearance. I would look for something a little shorter on a mustang gt

Harbor frieght is perfectly adequate for jacks and stands

I run a motorcycle battery in my car so no comment on that

I would worry about the make, just take a look if it looks solid, and don't go over the max weight of the jack and jack stands.

For mustangs I wouldn't worry about the weight. Now if we where talking about an HD pickup or something bigger that's a different story.

I've been looking at interstate to. But the Durlast battery has slightly better specs for a few dollars more. Optima's are expensive!

And I agree with not going cheap, I just don't want something really expensive either.

And that's another issue, one of our cars will be lowered eventually. So thanks for bringing that up.

I'll join the others in saying harbour freight is great for jacks. Use their coupon to get a 3 ton low pro jack for $70 and buy some aluminum jack stands with a 20% off code. They're atcually of pretty good quality.

That was my thinking as well. If it looks solid I would think it would hold up well. I just like to have a good idea of what I should be looking at.

As far as weight, everything seems to come in at what we would need.

That sounds like really good pricing actually, how is their ground clearance? Someone mentioned those might be a little tall and my dad's Mustang sits kind of low.

For stands just grab some cheapo harbor freight or craftsman. The only higher end ones I'd save up for are jackpoints. They make life so much easier.

For the actual jack, take a look at the Local pawn shops and see if they've got a nice used one. Take your phone so you can look up exactly what's there.

Still 12v, not as much amps, but if your started doesn't draw many amps you'd be fine.

I thought about a lawn mower or bike battery for weight savings, but I also carry about 100lbs of miscellaneous crap & tools. So weight savings would be null. I also drive a 3cyl which isn't hard to start mostly.

My Abarth is pretty low and I've used Harbor Freight jack stands. You'll have to jack the car up to get them under there anyways. My car is so low I have to drive my car up on some 2x4's to get the jack under there and then jack it up to fit the jack stands.

I've dealt with a "slammed" mustang with about 2 inches of clearance. I couldn't get to the front center jacking point without jacking each side and putting 2x4's under the wheels. Then I had no issue. You won't find a lower jack for less then $300, I can guarentee that.

Another vote for the hb jack. I bought a long reach low profile, I think it was about $175 or so, and I have no regrets with it. It is heavy, no doubt about that, so its not what you want if you have to lug it places, but it can also reach the pumpkin on my S2k with no problem. Quality item. Also, check your coupons, most of them list jacks in the excluded items.

I didn't think of 2x4's, good idea. But mine will never be "slammed" so I hope I will be fine

Harbor Freight for jack stand and such. Have two different 2 ton jacks and stands from there and they work great. havent done anything to them. (They are about 10 years old now)

I think I'm going with them. Good pricing and everyone seems to like them. I'm just deciding if the aluminum jack stands are worth it. They aren't to much more over the steel.

you connect a motorcycle battery ( a fancy LiFePo4 one) instead of a car battery and see it your car turns over. Saves me 30lb and I've been running it for a year and a half with no issues.

Haven't even needed a trickle charger yet

actually mine is twice the amperage of my OEM battery, less total capacity though.

If you want to lift high get 3 ton jackstands, but if you have a small jack. Dont. Or you wont even be able to get them under the car.

Before you get a battery. Check if your battery is held with a strap. My 08 mustang has a strap.

If it has, then you need one that has exactly the same size (height/width).

I've broken too many harbor freight tools to trust my life to them. I'd spend $10 or $20 and get a craftsman
