Jesus, that would be awesome. Never thought of that. I've seen a guy who put them in a '73 Z28, but never an IROC.

Right? I honestly have no idea if he would come down on the price, but I think it could be done.

It won't hurt to try. Please love this car and burn some cheap tires down to the cords.

Let be known that Friday the 13th of Feburary 2015 should be henceforth referred to as Oldsmobile Day. No lie, I saw my fav 442 generation on the way to work this morning. I present the Third gen. This is my Olds want:

These are the best looking G-Body's around. And it hurts me to say that because I'm an unashamed Grand National fanboi.
On the other hand, that's a TON of cash for a car that's not fast and only like eleven of us will appreciate. I love the Olds engines better than the SBC (yes, even the 307 Olds), but I might be the only one...

The car has Ice cold a/c because it's using R12 instead of R134a and when it no longer is ice cold, you are looking at a hefty repair bill for the conversion.
Other that that, mmmmMMMMMmmmm.

why do you want this more than a pre-smog era car?

Lol. I would love to. But my 16 year old self can only afford one 80's classic, let alone two.

Lol. I wondered that for a while. This website has a good video that shows them being put through their paces.

I'm cool with that!
Oh man, that is awesome. I don't care what anyone says. I completely agree with you; Colonnade 442's are kick ass. I haven't seen one of them in a long time, sadly.

Agreed. I'm a huge GN fanboy too, and I would probably rather have a GN, but these Hurst/Olds are just so damn cool.
Yeah, it is. Though, it is extremely well preserved, low miles, and quite rare (I haven't seen one in a while). If I had the money, I would probably try to talk him down a bit, but I would gladly purchase it, regardless.
Really? I love me a good Olds 455 or something along those lines, but I'd probably take an SBC over the 307. Any reason in particular why you prefer the 307?

I like all the Olds motors, but especially appreciate the later 307, 350 and 403 for mostly irrational reasons. I just can't love the pre-LS small block Chevy. I think it makes an OK truck engine, but even the most well sorted LT1 and LT4 just never thrilled me. They just have a cheaper, less well sorted feel to them. They feel like they're built to a price point. On the other hand, the Olds engine had a specific mission and it did that perfectly: be smooth. They're oh so buttery and quiet and torquey down in the basement... they just feel right.
EDIT: reading my above comment, I realize I have no scientific reason to dislike the SBC. I guess it's kinda like all the VW guys back in the 80s who would talk about the "intangible" reasons why VWs are better than other cars. They resorted to intangibles because they (like me) couldn't back up their positions! ha ha!

Yeah, that really kind of sucks. How expensive would it be? I'm curious.
I know, right? So freaking cool.

Colonnade body. I love the lines. One could always de-smog, or freshen up the motor. The 73's and 74's aren't bad as far as smog and emissions, but they did go way downhill 75-77. For instance the 455 in 1975 made 190 hp, in '73 it made 270. Still not great, but not horrible. De-smogging and emissioning the motors does wonders.

I remember my dad borrowed one of those C4 Vette's from the 80's with the crazy overdrive, that was a fun ride.

Lol, the Doug Nash 4+3? Yeah, they are pretty awesome in a sort of quirky/cool way. Sometimes I wish my C4 had one.

yea definitely quirky, and being only around 8 when I got that ride, it was the coolest thing to see....especially because I could barely see out the window lol. I spent most of the time watching the shifts, and the dash (which also happened to display 80+ mph on a back road lol)

I would love one of these. My grandfather was an executive at Hurst in the '60s and '70s and tried to get my dad to buy one of the original Hurst/Oldses on his employee discount, but Dad turned it down and bought a used 6-cylinder Firebird instead. I believe he's regretted that decision ever since, especially seeing what the values are like now (although, even if he had bought the car, its highly unlikely he would have held onto it long enough to profit, given the two oil embargoes happened in the interim).
I'll never be able to afford a real Hurt/Olds from the glory days, but a 1980s example would at least give me a taste.

Excellent. I grew up in that era, some people just don't realize how emasculated the cars were. If you are up for fixing the motor, more power to you! My 442 was a 68, 7 cylinders, no handling, but sooooo much character, I will have another someday.

They just featured one of these on the show Fat & Furious. They just did a quick flip on it, but they highlighted the shifters. Also, I'm not sure If I actually like the show or not yet. Haha
