The key in my Focus was stuck in the ignition yesterday. After a few tries, several swear words and a squirt or two of DW-40, I gave up and left it, hoping no one would steal the car when I was out on appointments. I got to my office today, fired up the internet, and searched "stuck ignition key" and Ford Focus was the 2nd suggestion. A YouTube showed how to remove it in 5 seconds. Made my whole day.

Shift interlock, methinks. Pretty dodgy, but it's good that you got it figured out.

Yep. I was pretty anxious yesterday with the key in the ignition, as I had a couple of homes to walk through yesterday, both of which were not in the best neighborhoods. The car disappearing, I could live with, but my laptop & work-files that I keep in my car, that would have been much worse. Luckily, it's a black key and not too obvious from the outside. And I have tinted windows as well.

To be honest, It's so much easier to DIY nowadays. My dad had friends he would call to have things fixed if he did not know. Luckily he was a pretty good mechanic and my first car I went through 3 engines and 2 transmissions.

I had this problem with my Focus as well. I eventually changed out the key cylinder. Never had the problem again. I am the furthest thing form a mechanic but it was easy.

Yeah, I've heard it's a problem, especially with the 1st gen Focus. Mines an '06, which is the same as the car in the posted video. Adjusting a piece of plastic is far cheaper than replacing a cylinder lock.

Mine got to the point that there was no other option. And for $50 it was cheaper than replacing all the wiper blades.

I've seen so many of these, most people just put a scarf or something to hide the key
