I'll try to forgive you for actually be willing to go to jail over a kei car and a minivan and not an E46 M3 CSL, E46 M3 GTR, or even a E92 M3 GTS. The latter two have race derived V-8s and the CSL has its orgasmic induction noise.

While the CSL look is popular with M3 owners here in the states getting some CSL specific parts (to essentially make a CSL clone) is nearly impossible because BMW limits the availability of them.

Kinja'd!!!

The M3 GTR is even rarer as most of the homologation cars were sold to race teams to be turned into race cars. These are pretty much the only pictures that exist of the M3 GTR 'Street Car'.

I find it funny how everyone fawns over the M3 CSL when it only comes with the SMG. Get any other M3 with the SMG and you'll be ridiculed.

I bet a good number of people who ridicule the SMG haven't even driven one (I haven't either) So I couldn't tell you my personal stance on it but a lot of people drive them just fine and a majority say its a matter of learning how to drive the transmission on the street and in traffic.

I agree with you 100%. Over the years, I have actually compiled a comprehensive list of places that sell OEM CSL bits that will ship to the US. I found a source for the roof, cams, airbox, diffuser, wheels, bootlid and center console. Unfortunately, I did/do not own an e46 M3 at the time I found the sources to purchase those parts. If you keep a good lookout, ECS and Modbargains usually pop up with some OEM CSL bits. They once had the entire airbox assembly with snorkel and everything for sale at one point a few years back.

I remember falling in love with the race and street version of the GTR as a kid. It's a shame there's so little info about them. There is a guy on M3Forum who was attempting to build a replica street GTR. I don't know how far he got since I haven't had time to browse there in a long time but he seemed to have a pretty good plan with the donor engine (s62 because the race engine was based off it) and car ready to go.

I actually read that thread this morning and he didn't finish. He was actually using a S65 out of a E90 and had both cars stripped down but fell out of love with the project because he was enjoying his CSL replica too much.

Its a pretty massive project to undertake because the lack of information.
