Well, last week the hiking boots I was using fell apart, and that meant I had a valid reason to buy some riding shoes:

Kinja'd!!!

I just have to resist the urge to immediately go for a ride and see if they actually fit my feet well before I make them un-returnable.

I don't ride, but I feel really weird not having laces on my shoes. My cycling shoes are velcro only, but that's because they don't come any other way, but I never feel as comfortable.

I also do custom lacing on all of my shoes, and military lacing on my work boots.

I've never had a problem, and they tuck under the velcro. I also don't have tons of cash and these were just under $100 with decent reviews.

I mostly like the fact that they look like any other shoe (almost).

Those look nice, and I would have gone with something like that if I had the budget. My wife wasn't pleased with the need for new riding shoes anyway. So cheapest option that will get the job done adequately.

Thankfully, she agrees that my hobby results in me being happier and that everything is better for me having it, so she grudgingly agrees that my safety is probably a priority.

Bicycles always just tried to kill me so I gave up on them a long time ago.

ahh, "the wife"

you see, i got this problem out of the way.

by 1) not being married (i'm 19...yay!)
and 2) every girl i've dated/asked out, i told them right from the start. The bikes stay. if you ever ask my to choose between you or bikes, have your bags packed, because you will lose.

2 years with the current GF, i think I am good with regards to those terms.

Sadly, we had to sell my first bike to cover Green Card fees in our first year of marriage, and it took a few years for us to get back to where a motorcycle as a hobby was feasible.

She loves the idea of motorcycles since all our dates were via my GS500, but she doesn't want to ride one in a big city. It's the extra on gear that she isn't totally sure on (Probably because I haven't told her how many blind idiots have attempted to (un-intentionally) kill me in this city).

It's my fault. I only insisted on a helmet when we lived in a small town where people never drove over the speed limit (25mph), stopped to let you out and there were only three four lane streets in the town, and nothing was more than a 5 minute drive away. So I trained her badly to begin with.
