Whenever someone asks the inevitable "What should Cadillac do?" the answer is ALWAYS Elmiraj.
For fuck's sake Cadillac, the answer and its beautiful ass are RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU.

We should start a car company that does nothing but build production versions of all the awesome concepts the manufacturers refuse to make. I'd start with the El Miraj, the Mazda Furai, the Chevy Code 130R, and the Nissan IDX.

It's all cool and dandy, but it's not the answer.
Big luxury coupes are marginal automobiles with marginal sales and few people knows about them anyway.
They need a baby Escalade crossover. Like it or not, the Escalade is Caddy's flagship and the SRX is a goofy looking blob and is not a threat to the X5/ML and RX. Take the CTS platform and build a baby slade, this may work.

It's not the only answer, but if they're going to go toe-to-toe with ze Germans they need to compete with them on every level. They need a GT and a top of the line sedan. But you're right that the SRX is entirely forgettable and they're missing out on a lot of sales there. Though idk about calling it a mini escalade - how trashy would it look seeing that nameplate on something small? I'm thinking pretty trashy.

Elmiraj + EV drivetrain (perhaps a Volt drivetrain with a 2.0T instead?) would be a crushingly beautiful thing. But the Caddy would likely need four doors to sell.

The Escalade is their flagship and most popular car. Making a crossover that would look a bit like it is certainly not a bad idea, especially compared to that minivan-esque low-end SRX.
Now for the GT/Flagship sedan, I think they're not just there yet. You need to have your bread and butter cars selling well before thinking of expanding at the top.

I'm with you on all but the 130R that thing is hideous I would take the mid engined 140S over the 130R anyday.

That's probably Cadillac's most glaring hole in their product lineup. I really love what they've done with the ATS and CTS, but they have the miserably outdated SRX and then the big daddy Escalade and absolutely fucking nothing in between. Where's the competitor to the X3, X1 and hell, even the X5?
The Escalade is built on a truck platform, not on a dedicated SUV/Crossover platform like their German competitors. And while that certainly hasn't hurt sales of the Escalade, they really have nothing that can directly go toe-to-toe with the likes of BMW's, Merc's, Audi's or even Lexus' and Acura's lineup of crossovers and SUVs.

I personally think a large part of the Escalade's cache as a brand is its size, and therefore no matter how much people might think they want a crossover version, it will just be inherently disappointing and uninspired to consumers. They need a Navigator/Aviator combo but with better execution.
And for your second point, that's why the XLR failed, because they didn't have the lower-end lineup to support that kind of car. I'd argue that they do now.

It's not as bad a Lincoln. Anytime someone mentions Lincoln somebody ALWAYS posts a picture of a 60's Continental.
