Austin Hatch is a player on the Michigan Basketball team and has overcome unthinkable injuries and tragedy to get there. It is an incredible story and this ESPN video shows why his story is so miraculous. Ive met him a few times and he is genuinely one of the most genuine and kind people you will ever meet. It isnt car related but I felt it was worth a share.

Too bad the U of M will probably use him like cannon fodder, and probably won't make time for his classes, but they always cared more about sport than academics. I knew one of the tutors for the U of M athletic department, and her instructions were keep them off academic probation. She went in thinking the U of M was actually interested is these men, mostly from working class minorities and left thinking that they were just meat to the University.

Ive actually found the opposite to be true. Between me and my RA we are good friends with many athletes on the football, basketball (M&W), hockey, volleyball, softball, swim/diving, baseball, and soccer teams and they are all more than smart enough to get good grades w/o anyone doing the work for them. The university definitely profits big time from the big 3 sports (football, basketball, and hockey) and i can see how you could get the impression that athletes are babied along acadmically, but the reality is that 95% of them are truely able to do it on their own.

Hey, don't hate that some Michigan students actually found a job.

Then times have changed since I lived in A^2 and was a student. Back then they had a friend teaching long division to members of the football team, and her suggestion of letting some of these students take some high school level courses at Washtenaw Community College got the reply "they don't have time for that".

Uhhh, some? "93.5% of the 2012-2013 LSA graduates responding to the survey indicated that they were employed or continuing their education."

Same for the college of engineering, but with higher salaries:

I won't deny there are plenty of things to hate on Michigan about, but that's not one of them.
