Hey Oppo! I was looking at the Kat's weekend wallpaper post and the spec sheet for the 650S featured. I was pleasantly surprised by the fuel economy it has, 16/18/22, it isn't great but this is a supercar so it isn't about the fuel economy. That got me thinking though, what supercars have or had the best fuel economy relative to other supercars? This can include naturally aspirated, forced induction, or hybrid.
Edit: Something besides the 918. It wins, but lets see some others.

Obviously the Porsche 918. It gets 98mpg EU or 74 US.

From wiki:
The energy storage system is a 312-cell, liquid-cooled 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery positioned behind the passenger cell. In addition to a plug-in charge port at the passenger-side B-pillar, the batteries are also charged by regenerative braking and by excess output from the engine when the car is coasting. CO 2 emissions are 79 g/km [6] and fuel consumption is 3.0 L/100 km (94 imperial mpg/78 us mpg) under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). [16] The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under its five-cycle tests rated the 2015 model year Porsche 918 Spyder energy consumption in all-electric mode at 50 kWh per 100 miles, which translates into a combined city/highway fuel economy of 67 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPG-e) (3.5 L/100 km; 80 mpg -imp gasoline equivalent). [1] When powered only by the gasoline engine, EPA's official combined city/highway fuel economy is 22 mpg -US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg -imp ). [1]

I can't imagine there is any chance in hell it's not the 918. Porsche went farther than anyone to make their super car a legitimate hybrid. The P1 has like a 4-6 mile range on electricity only. The 918 actually has a respectable range of something like 20 miles or more.

I was wondering what it got, expectations blown away.

You didn't know? It's been out for nearly two years now.

Good job Porsche. This is the one supercar I wanted to own before the new GT debuted.

The McLaren gets better gas mileage than my truck

I never really was interested before. It didn't occur to me to look something like that up, when it was impressive enough being thrown around race tracks.

It gets similar mileage to my 2.7L V6 Stratus, slightly less efficient than my car I think.

Well some would consider the Tesla Model S P85D a supercar.
So if *you* consider it to be a supercar, then it's also probably the most fuel efficient supercar as well.

I didn't even think of the P85D. That thing is absolutely insane, when in said mode.

McLaren P1 isn't too bad:

I've heard that Ford GTs can get up to 28 mpg on the highway when cruising at 70 mph in 6th gear.

I'd be very interested to see how true that is.

I have it on good authority that it's true.

The GT just keeps getting better. It is currently the only supercar I'd like to own.

It is a magnificent machine.

that it is. I am so glad that Ford is doing it, nice to say there is a legitimate American supercar.

Indeed.
Also, just to clarify, I'm talking about the 2005-6 model GT, not the new one.

Hell, I thought you were talking about the new one. That is pretty good for sure. I thought it had abysmal mileage, my evidence is the Top Gear episode where Jeremy road tripped his across France which probably isn't accurate.

That Top Gear episode, while highly entertaining, is very much inaccurate.

To be honest, are any Top Gear episodes accurate? Besides maybe the polar special? That one seems fairly spot on, I would think. I take everything I see on there with a planet size grain of salt, it is usually fairly entertaining though.

Actually I think 16/22 is fucking amazing for what it is. the only car I'm more surprised with is the C7 Corvette with a staggering 29mpg hwy. I could actually call that a smart eco friendly purchase. If I did not need a back seat the C7 would be high on my list.
![]() 02/08/2015 at 00:32 |

The C7 is pretty amazing and it has been eating many sports cars alive. I would love to own one, American brands seem to have figured out how to make good vehicles that people want again.

Their driving impressions are most likely fairly honest but facts given should be taken with a bit of skepticism.

I agree, every person and every vehicle are different. It is also a show made for entertainment which kind of puts everything they say in a position of some doubt.

Very true. It's difficult to balance being entertaining and informative.

You are very right. I think Jeff at Hooniverse does a good job of it though with his reviews. He is very expressive whilst being informative.

I agree.
