Well my son and I are going to take his badass new RC car out for a spin in the snowy streets of Canada. This is my first experience with a "high end" rc car. Any tips/tricks/advice from you all? My 12 year old son got the car as a gift from his grandpa. Also, how good is this car, and is there anything we should worry about?

They usually are friggin' fast. As least my Tamaya Super Hornet was. It's picking up dust atm. My father's Fighter RX had a ski conversion, as well as a set of street tires.

It gets addicting.

First you just upgrade to a brushless motor.

Then you get a Nitro truck.

Then you get some street cars.

Then you get a 1/18 scale baja truck.

Then you let them rot in the garage until they get stolen.

Just try to seal any electronic parts in a bag so it won't get wet :) Other than that, have fun mate :)

try to get a ski conversion kit. They run much better in snow with one on.

It gets fun just thinking about what to do with them. It's basically like a real car. It's expensive.

It is brushless :) also "water proof" (i.e. will not submarine... For very long), and 4wd

Will awd make this conversion difficult?

Usually you remove the front drive axles. It all depends on how the car is setup exactly.

You got into the low-end of Hobby-grade RC, Vaterra is made by Horizon, the parent company of Spektrum radios and Losi cars. Still, it's a solid entry-level vehicle, it all gets more expensive from here. Just ask my 1/8th scale Nitro buggy and support equipment, it gets pricy.

Well, it's a Canadian car so if it runs into another RC car while it's out, it'll apologize profusely even if it's not it's fault.

If you get the American version it'll cut off the other RC cars and cuss them out for getting in the way.

That is good to know, wouldn't want us to crash a high end/expensive gift and end up having to spend a ton of money tyring to fix it.
