Oppo, I fear I may be an old man at the ripe old age of 29

My idea of the perfect Friday night is nothing more than sitting on my back porch with a good cigar, a glass of good whiskey (highland park 12yr in this case), a fire in the pit and some old jazz playing. Now I do use the word fear loosely, I'm definitely enjoying myself, but damn if that doesn't sound like an old man's evening.

I'm 48 and that sounds like a damned good evening to me. God knows I'm not having sex any time soon. So maybe you are old. Or, old enough to appreciate the importance of a quiet evening with a good drink, a good smoke, some good music and your own thoughts.

Where do you live? I can bring my own cigar.

Personally I find people your age who are still getting schwasted at bars week after week a bit sad. Good on ya

I turn 27 a week from Tuesday, and that sounds like a perfect plan for my birthday night

I'm seventeen and there's nothing I love more than the sound of rain on a porch roof, and a song by Billie Holiday. That and I'm currently looking for a straight razor to use instead of a disposable. We've just reached maturity at an earlier age ^-^

dont get me wrong a night at a pub with good beers and friends to bullshit with is fun too, but clubs and loud bars have never really been my thing.

Well, I'm in Austin. Not that far of a drive! I'm not familiar with that area. I lived in Houston for three years when I was going to Rice. We lived in the Montrose, and then out on Beltway 8/Bellaire. On the whole, I rather liked it.

I've been spending the evening watching the 1972 tv series Kung Fu, and Antiques Roadshow. I'm 21.

Montrose is a fun part of town for sure & Austin is a fun town in general. My wife and I both love the hill country. Some friends of mine and I are thinking of doing the USGP this year, if we do, you should come hang out with us for a while one night, I promise good booze, company, and a good smoke.

It's not old, it's preference. I'd much prefer the same rather than barhopping or crazy parties, and I am only 23. Friday is the end of the week, I'm always tired and want nothing more than to relax and get a good damn night of sleep.

26 here, and I'd entirely agree with all of that, though my liquor tastes tend toward single malts. Bonus points for the wearing of cardigans with elbow patches, and the jazz being on an original record. I totally embrace my old-man-ness.

hp is a single malt, speyside specifically, and I actually was wearing a cardigan earlier today, no elbow patches though.

Once I turned 30 the idea of going to a noisy place with a bunch of people talking had very little appeal to me. Plus after a couple beers now I pretty much want a nap. I pretty much want to build a boat and be left alone when I have time.

As long as you get better with age like that whiskey, there's nothing to fear. Sounds like a fine way to spend an evening.

Youre old when you do all those things but when you sit down, you make a noise. Until then youre just chill as F@&k. Which is good in anybodys book.

Or if you start yelling at the clouds. Youre old if you do that too.

Well - from the experience of being "old", there's nothing wrong with appreciating finer things in life. You'll note that all of the things you describe are more subtle than mainstream 'things'. Discernment is something you acquire, and are not [generally] born with.

Revel. Roll. Dive into a tub of what you like. That's what I've learned over the years. (Scrooge McDuck comes to mind.)

Lol, I did spend the day in the garage working on the Miata, so I definitely understand the sentiment. And honestly, I've never much cared for loud bars and clubs. A nice laid back pub with some friends, good food, good beer, and quality bullshitting time though is always fun.

I'm 28 and I am perfectly fine with that. What's wrong is a 30 year old on some clubbing all the time crap or trying to be younger.
