Go ask your parents what their dream cars are, the car they would go buy right now if they had the money. Report back here and share your findings.
My mom says either a Grand Wagoneer or an MGB. My dad wants a '69 Camaro SS.

My mom wants one of these:
I'm not sure what my dad wants. Just before I was born my dad traded in his MGB and my mom traded in her Duster to buy a Datsun wagon so I could ride in back.

I wish they were. They just both remember them from some movie in the 80's, and they've each wanted one since. My Mom actually got excited the other day when I told her how cheap 944's have gotten.

Mom: Range Rover, Evoque, LR4
Why any form of LR wont happen: My Dad is afraid of their build quality/reliability
Audi Q7,
Why it won't happen: My dad had a terrible expreince with Audi in the past, so because he's the one who buys the cars, would not want to spend money on one
BMW x5.
It hasn't been ruled out yet
Dad: Tesla Model S
Logansteno: Bought a VW?

Dad wants some form of lifted, built up Silverado. Something like this but with less wheel diameter and ugly grille and bumper.

This I don't have to ask.
My dad wants his old 57 Chevy Bel Air back (My grandparents sold it when he was stationed in West Germany in the late '70s) or a nice restored '56 Bel Air. He likes the '56 more.

My mom I don't know. But my father I sure do. First there is the 911 Carrera RS 3.2.
And then, a car he had before i was born, that he had to sell because of me birthing. A Talbot Samba Rallye which was apparently an absolute monster. It weighed less than 1,750 lbs and was heavily modified with Peugeot Talbot Sport parts. Don't know how much power it made, but factory it had only 90 hp, but it probably had close to what the racing version had (130 hp).

Dad: 1964 Impala SS Convertible. He owned three or four of them back in the 80s and 90s. He had to sell his mint condition 100% stock (even down to wheel skirts) back in about 2000 to cover the cost of a growing family.

The car gene can skip a generation, so it's one of your grandparents that had it. I used to wonder the same thing, but a few weeks back a cousin posted a pic of our grandpa, (that passed shortly after I was born, so I didn't know much about) and an uncle commented on how much he loved cars.

Mom's mother: didn't start driving till 35 and had 3 honda civics and before that a Plymouth Valiant
Father's father: is obsessed with old Hyundai. Has 3 of them all pre 2005. Also hates the new Hyundai. Before Hyundai he loved Buick
Father's mother: drives a Honda Accord. This is her 4th one.

I'm sure my mom would continue to pick the Lexus Whatever's most like my Camry.
My Dad is a bit of a wildcard. Currently owns a Prius but had a Toyota Corona Mark II coupe in the 70's. He still SWEARS it was a sports car. If I had to take a stab, I'd guess Model S since he loves the novelty of the engineering of the Prius.

While I haven't asked him lately, my dad's dream car would be either an MGB GT;
Or a MK1 Triumph 2.5pi estate (The 2.5pi being the more powerful variant);
with an outside option on the Reliant Scimitar GTE:
The main reason he hasn't made the plunge hasn't been the cost; none of the above would be all that expensive. It's reliability and safety. He does high miles in his job, and said he didn't want to run his kids around in something that might be not be all that safe. That said, his miles are dropping a lot, and we 're both off at uni, so it's still a possibility. As for my mum, I'm not too sure; she's not that much of a car person, although she's owned a couple of hot hatches and a mini in the past. At the moment, she's satisfied with the saxo that she's got, and plans to keep it going for a good while.

My mother had 2 old Celicas before she had twins. Had to sell due to baby seats. If she had the money, she'd probably buy a newer one.
Not the most adventurous choice, but she could do worse and it's a pretty cool car for a 50+ lady.

My dad wants a Camry. My mom just cares that her car drives. Might as well talk about the rest of my family too. :P
My youngest brother doesn't care about cars, my younger brother thinks the Prius is cool (got railed for it last Thanksgiving). The only person in my family that's really into cars is my older brother who drives a C63, but that's because he's out of college and already working. Even so he would never work on his own car.
So...... yeah. I like many of you wonder how I became a Jalop. ;-;

Dad wants:
but says he'll probably always just get cars. His dreams are easier to reach that way (and in that category), according to him. He thought he'd get a RZR but ended up with some government auctioned 4x4s for cheaper than that.

Eh, My dad is all about practicality, and has had 2 generations of Chevy Tahoe, with a Ford Explorer before that, and in 2011 he got a 2010 Audi Q7 TDI. He would pretty much have anything as long as it's not too expensive, reliable, and "practical" (aka fits lots of stuff) and has 4wd.

Yeah it was a little rattly, but we had that fixed. Now its pretty nice and she takes care of it. Also its the Merc cause it was way cheaper and we needed the truck. The Caddy will come in time, but this is her intrem hard top convertible.
