So Oppo I got some news, but first a Lincoln.
Okay, I went to the eye doctor today because I couldn't see road signs. Turns out, I'm partially nearsighted and will have to have glasses. I'm glad I managed to get this sorted before I got my license, but this is going to be a bit of a new chapter. Any opponauts here that have vision problems?

Had nearsightedness for years! What a pain.
Lasik last year, and I couldn't be happier!

Vision problems as nearsightedness, probably tons (me among them). Colorblindness, I'd assume a few. Past that, I'd expect a case of glaucoma or cataracts or two.
I'm very hesitant to go Lasik because of the impact on night vision - being that I'm blue eyed, I've always been light sensitive but with good vision at night, and I'd hate to see that go.

How old are you? I'm just curious. I've needed vision correction since 2nd grade, so when people come to this later in life I am always baffled.
I am so used to wearing contacts now I don't worry about Lasik.

Can't see much past the end of my nose without glasses or contact lenses.

Yep, nearsighted and a small astigmatism. Have wore glasses/contacts since the 4th grade.

Currently I'm 18 and I had this problem since last year during my senior year of high school. My dad had it as well before he got Lasik so it does run in my family.

I'm 25 and have to wear glasses (near sighted). I got mine when I was 16/17 when I actually started to read for school so I could get into university (went from a C- average to an A- instantly).
Honestly I've been thinking about lasik but the risk of halos at night turns me off. I only wear glasses now at the theatre, driving or cycling. I just don't see much otherwise but contacts are on the list. You'll love being able to see when you drive soon :P

I've worn glasses since I can remember. I think they're fun! Make it part of your style. Zenni optical online is a great place to get cheap glasses so you can get many different styles for each day of the week if you wanted. Or if you want to go the hipster route, Warby Parker is a good option. Cheaper than buying at an eye glasses place if you don't have vision insurance.
Always. Always get anti-glare. It's a must have and helps a lot with night driving and glare.

Since you wear glasses as little as you do, I definitely wouldn't get LASIK. I was so near-sighted that I wore contacts or glasses all the time, from a young age. I had the surgery about 10 years ago and am very glad I got it, but I do have problems with halos at night, especially when I've been in front of my computer all day, or if I'm tired. Divided highway is okay, but curvy tw0-lanes are no bueno. But the benefits, to me, are worth the trade-off. I'm sure I'll need reading glasses eventually, but I'm still seeing better than 20/20...

Oh wow, thank you so much for the response and feedback! I actually really appreciate it and I'm glad my fear of halo's isn't crazy. I didn't know the halo's can get that bad where you can't do curvy two lane roads.
I'm going to take your advice and hold off and stick with just wearing glasses when driving/cycling. Did you find contacts hard to get used to? I'm thinking that's the best middle ground.

I wore contacts for many, many years, but once I had an astigmatism, the special lenses irritated my eyes, so I went back to just glasses for a while before I got LASIK.
I'd definitely try contacts, but take cleaning them or replacing them seriously.
My halos are worse than most because I have pale blue eyes and my eyes dilate like crazy in dark situations. People with darker eyes don't generally have as much of a problem, apparently. Strangely, the darker it is in my car and surrounding, the worse the halos are. So, I sometimes even turn the lights on in my car when driving at night to make things better (my pupils dilate less with more ambient light). Also, the initial cuts on my eyes were done with a blade, not a laser, so the more modern techniques may reduce this side effect as well.
Thankfully my wife doesn't mind driving at night, and is happy to take over when I need her to.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to give contacts a try next month :)
That's actually interesting, I never though eye color would change that but it makes sense. Even turning on your interior lights is something that would surprise me but explained that makes sense. I get why you're suggesting I avoid LASIK for now though and that's great your wife's up for driving!
