As classically trained orchestral musicians, we usually play stodgy classical music. Much of it is fun to play, but not this much fun. I can guarantee you that most of these musicians are playing with a greater gusto and joie de vivre than they would with a Beethoven symphony, as great as those symphonies are. Start your morning off with this rousing performance from the Prague Proms of 2011, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Carl Davis conducting.

I got tickets for this saturday night to the Grand Rapids Symphony to hear a show called rePlay! Symphony of heroes ....so basically a crapton of final fantasy, chrono trigger, and other epic game music strung together. The previews make it look amazing! To be honest, I don't think I would go to hear classical pieces done, but I enjoy hearing some of the new music being made and orchestrated. I imagine it would be more fun to play too.

I have the fanfare from FFVI as my ringtone, no lie. It's been that for a couple of years, after it proved to be easier to hear than the Doctor Who theme in loud places.

A couple of years ago I performed with the Austin Symphony on a concert called "The Music of Zelda." Pretty self explanatory, but it was fabulous. They sold out the first shows in a matter of hours and added another. Of course, this is Austin, a tech town, and so many of the programmers and computer geeks of today cut their teeth playing Zelda back in the day. There is some terrific music coming out with video games these days. I predict it will be a great show. Have fun!

I remember in middle school, when the advent children movie came out. My friends and I all had the victory music ringtone to match that one scene where tifa beats the crap out of the one jenova cell punk and the theme music starts playing......then the guy comes out of the rubble and the music was his ringtone.....Middle schoolers are stupid.

A friend of mine laughed pretty hard when he saw that scene for the first time (the biggest FFVII fan I know). One of my brothers has the Milennial Fair from Chrono Trigger as a ringtone, because Yasunori Mitsuda is also a boss.

That was great. Carl Davis is a cool guy. He did all the new recordings for Chaplin's films when they were restored and put to DVD. His films are now played year round and world wide with a live orchestra thanks to Davis.

Tim Morrison, Boston Pops in that second screen cap. Fantastic trumpet player. I wonder about that Matrix video. Did they perform the music during the entire movie? That would have been one hell of a blow. I may have to fire up my soundtrack from Jurassic, just to get better sound quality. It's nice to see some of this fantastic film and video game music making it to the concert stage.

My orchestra is closing its season this year with a performance of music for Gold Rush . The concert will be done in the town's Paramount Theater, a '30s-'40s style historic theater. Should be lots of fun. Thanks for the links. We're actually listed on the link of upcoming screenings!

That's awesome! I really go need to see one of these, but the closest scheduled is still a good 6 hour drive from me.
