Personal Crap Below.

Kinja'd!!!

So Monday afternoon I drive home from school, place my keys and wallet on my kitchen table, run to the bathroom then proceed to leave for a hardware store run. I come back from the bathroom to only find my wallet, no keys. So as I was in a hurry, I grabbed my spare set. that night my brother was on his way home for his birthday dinner with his new Subaru. Things were a bit hectic, lot going on. I have been using my spare set since Monday, tonight my mom finds my keys in her water glass. My dad somehow placed them in the ice machine. They went through the machine and now my oppo keychain is missing and my keys are mangled. By some grace of god my flash drive still works though.

A little background: To say my dad is a bit eccentric is like saying the sun is a bit hot. He is borderline autistic. He grew up entitled and wealthy, raised by nannies and instilled with the "if its broke, buy a new one" mentality. So he has no respect for material objects or other people really. He also has such a short fuse that he went on this 10 minute rant that also included some farm animal noises when he dropped a fork on the floor straight out of the dishwasher. He also has short term memory issues. When he is preparing for something, he tends to forget where he puts things and they usually turn up in interesting places. Like once after dinner I found my sunglasses in the china cabinet. How do I know he put them there even though he doesnt remember doing it? He was the one that put away the wine glasses. Same with this situation. He was going in and out of the freezer that night, he could have been the only one that put them there.

Now here lies the rub, if it were just my keys I'd go get a new set cut. But he destroyed my Oppo keychain, I love that thing. I really, truly cared about it. and he's defaulting blame on me for "leaving my stuff around". I'm so upset because he cant fathom how much I cared for that keychain and hes expecting me to pay for a new one. Why cant he just try to understand and pay the $7.50 to PetarVN's Mom's etsy shop and apologize for his mistake? He has no understanding of other peoples feelings and thats a problem because he also doesnt want to understand.

Now I could just move out and not have to deal with this. Except Im chronically ill, I take 26 medications daily and the cost of those are through the roof. At this rate I wont be able to afford to move out until I'm 35. So at the moment this is me:

Kinja'd!!!

And It sucks. My only outlet for the stress of my situation is to gripe on the internet and I wish I could actually change my situation, but apparently biology had a different plan for me

dude, your oppo keychain is missing? As it's provider, that sucks!

I'm sorry your dad messed up here, but I don't want the keychain to lead to arguments!

I'll tell you what. I'll talk to my mom tomorrow, and we'll send you a replacement. Free of charge!(well, on my dime, but it's ok... :D )

I hear you fella and empathise whole heartedly. It's one of those things that you are aware of in him and need to work round it. I know it's easier said than done. I ended up moving back home to save money and have a house bound mother and disabled step-father add to that a geriatric grand-father who gets more argumentative, sexist, racist and judgemental everyday and I think you can see I know what you mean. To use what they do is difficult and awkward to put up with day to day but for them they either can't see the problem, aren't aware there is a problem or worst case don't see it as a problem and that it's your problem to deal with if you do.

Try to keep a level head and be aware that putting something somewhere may have an inadvertent effect on the others in the house put everything in your room.

Does your health plan cover medicine insurance? My family are on so much medication it's unreal. Some medication is to counteract the effects of the other medication. Granted we have the NHS in the U.K. but prescriptions are only covered so much depending on your living and financial situation so they pay £90 yearly and that covers any and all medication for a year at a time (which with their medication would constitute hundreds of pounds a year even into thousands of pounds a year in prescription charges).

At least it was just your keychain and an accident. Before my friend's dad was sent to a treatment facility for violent bi-polar disorder he'd intentionally destroy my friend's things. Granted, that's pretty rare, but still. Just something to think about (it could always be much worse).

This is a great lullaby.

I'm not sure... Keep in mind I'm 16, and this is my parents' business :)

If you want your own keychain we can make you one though!

I kind of know your pain, especially on the medical expense part. My medicine bill would be about $600 a month if it weren't for my parents. Too bad you don't know someone in the Philippines lol. My Dad took some mission trips there, and while there, discovered one of my medications that cost about $300 here, cost $12 there. Same formula, same place of origin, same effects, not the same cost. Too bad the group he went with dissolved. But I don't take 26 medications, I can't imagine how much that would cost.

Sounds good but it says 'only ships to United States', I'm in the United Kingdom. Lol.

If I order one with a non discript address (if you could provide one) I'll use that to fill one out for you to send to Denver. Would that be okay?

I was misdiagnosed bipolar ( it was actually the side effects of an asthma drug, there is a black box petition out on it now). anyway thats my way of saying I understand how scary Bipolar disorder can be. Luckily all my symptoms went away in a matter of weeks after I stopped the meds. But I realize not everyone is so lucky to have their psychiatric issues be casued by meds

That's a tough situation. My father has the same "deal with it" attitude when it comes to his actions and decisions. It led to some difficult decisions when I was growing up.

Are there any medications that you're taking that could otherwise be controlled instead by lifestyle? Things like diet, activites, etc? If so, the first thing to focus on would be those. That could help expand your personal budget immensely.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't do it for just anyone, but seeing what the situation is, it's something I want to do! :)

Also, the fact that Denver fixed it after it broke touched my heart; to see someone care so much for a little piece of wood I helped design. It made my day that day! So the least I could do is make his day!

Hey as others have chimed in I'd foot the bill for the keychain (that thing is bad ass, but I carry a shitload of keys and it would likely get damaged if I got one!)

But I wanted to say something else, I mean this in the most non-offensive way possible but have you spoken to your mom about getting some testing done on your dad? I only ask because some of the things you mentioned in your post a good friend of mine had dealt with when we were in 8th grade.

She was living with her grandmother and her grandmother would do things like leave the house phone in the fridge or tv remote in the sink with dishes with no recollection of ever doing it and it turned out to be early signs of dementia, more specifically Alzheimers. Now if I remember correctly I believe you mentioned your mom was a therapist, maybe you should sit down and have a talk with her to see her thoughts.

I know at first you're probably like "Pffft my dad doesn't have Azheimers, this guy's [me] an idiot" but some people can star showing signs as early as 40 years old. Not saying he does (and I hope to God he doesn't) but it might warrant a test as the stuff you mentioned above kind of worries me.

Affordable Care Act, bro

Subsidized healthcare, nearly free

Honestly, as a fulltime student making what scratch you do, they'd probably put you on Medicare and call it a day (not necessarily a bad thing)

I know a lot about living with parents that have some (mild) mental issues and a upbringing not really like their current situation. all I can say is that it sucks... It's just our burden, got to love them, get their love when it comes and hopefully find some healthy outlets for your anger when on those days when it just gets to be too much.

keep strong!

Sorry to hear that. That sounds very insensitive of your father.

It makes me think of a time when I lent my gloves to my wife (and now ex-wife). She lost them. And I gave her shit for it. She was saying "they're just gloves"... and yes, they were.

But they were *my* gloves and I *liked* them. They fit just right and I liked how they looked. The fact that gloves could be replaced entirely missed the point.

Back when I was younger and lived with my parents, when they annoyed me, I'd go out for a while... usually a bike ride.

I'm not sure how feasible that is for you but anyway, you have my sympathy.

I hope you recover from your illness to the point that you can eventually have your own place where nobody is messing with your stuff.

My mum used to have these really wild outbursts while I still lived there. She would be repressing stuff for days, weeks, months, even years and then she would lash it out on me in one blow, because I was the only person around, usually.

One Sunday morning I'm lying in my bed, reading a textbook, getting ready to travel back to university the next morning, when she suddenly opened the door, still wearing a gown and would just walk up and down, disoriented. Picked a few stuff off the floor as I had quite a few books lying around and then she took one of them and threw it at me hard and then would pick up everything and just threw it at me one by one. Luckily I had my bedsheet over me and I could cover my head with the book. I didn't say a thing, I was waiting for the storm to go away.

The only point I got scared a bit when she lifted my electric guitar. Now, that's hard, thick wood. That was the moment when it ran across my mind that if she swung that thing at me, there would be blood, however it turned out. Eventually she put it back and walked out of the room. I was all WTF for about ten minutes and then I started to pack up.
