Let's just hope it's only strep. My son missed a week of school two weeks ago, and my wife was out for three days last week. I guess it's my turn. This sucks.

I had a bout of something throat related back just before Christmas. Unpleasant, but antibiotics knocked it out quickly once I finally bothered to get some (nearly a week later).

My throat started hurting last evening, and I was at the doctor by 9:00 this morning. I wanted to get ahead of it if possible. But now it looks like my son's strep may be coming back.

If I actually had a sex life, that might be a possibility.

That's the bastard with bacteria, to be sure.

But we were very conscientious to make sure he took every dose of his meds. Never skipped one. But he was REALLY sick, and I think this is a particularly nasty bug.

It's also possible that the bacteria was hiding out somewhere. Since there isn't a broad immunity to a bacteria like with a virus (usually), anywhere that the virus was "hiding out" is just one step away from re-starting the infection, regardless whether the antibiotics have done their job.

He was taking amoxicillin, though, which I thought was a very broad spectrum antibiotic. Should have killed everything, even the good gut bacteria. The doctor gave my wife good old penicillin, and while it may have been working on her strep she ended up with a sinus infection on top of it. They switched her to amoxicillin. I'm taking augmentin, which is supposedly even stronger than amoxicillin. We'll see.

I didn't meant hiding out in the body so much as hiding out somewhere else in the house. Heck, could even have been hiding out asymptomaticallly for a few days in a pet. Staph much more so than strep is bad for lurking places, but most bacteria can to a degree. As soon as the amoxicillin is out of the system, *bam*.
