Is it just me or does it look too much like the old 458?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Similar headlights, wheels, windows, overall shape, etc.

Sure it's only a refresh, but why not spice it up a little?

That's because it is a refreshed 458 with a better engine.

Sure, there is plenty of similarity. but it is different enough.

You are the third person, at least that I've seen, to say this on Oppo today.

The answer is yes.

I blame a lack of aesthetic competition, a design that still looks fresh, more money being put into the internal components than the exterior design, and limits on what can be improved aerodynamically without looking the same.

so, they got rid of the "meticulously engineered" air stabilizers up front?

It's supposed to look like the 458, isn't it? It's just a 458 Turbo.. maybe they felt the change necessitated a new name.

Looks cool but I have to see in person to be sure. I want to see it in blue.

It gets snails and torque, it stopped being a Honda. That's plenty of spice.

The original speculation about this car would be that it would be called the 458M. (M for Modificato (or something like that, I don't know Italian)). So it looks like a 458 because it kind of is. It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that this is the 458 replacement because it looks so similar, but internally, it's different enough for me to remind myself that this is essentially an all-new car. However, I don't understand why it's called the 488... it should be called the 398 if you ask me.

The 488 looks like a crazy render based off of camouflaged spy shots of the 458 Italia..

You know, I honestly think that could be part of it... They might've been afraid that if it was a smaller number, people would've thought it was an inferior car to the 458 and 430... I mean, one of Ferrari's biggest markets is the US, where bigger is absolutely perceived as better.

It's in Ferrari's tradition. Think about it.

It's the 328 to the 308

It's the 355 to the 348

Its the F430 to the 360

From what I've heard, the Ford GT will cost about the same as the Aventador, at least $400,000-$500,000. So no, they are not in the same price class.

I thought it did, but when you put them side by side, the differences really jump out at you. Also, as Arch Duke pointed out, this is very typical of Ferrari's design cycles.

Really, I see this as a testament of how well the original 458's design held up over the past six years. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

The 488 is to the 458 as the 430 is to the 360, both the 488 and the 430 were improved renditions of the their formers. The true redesigned Ferrari lies with the new Sergio.

Right there with you - the 458 is cleaner, less busy, especially with the updated Speciale grill. I still want one of those in that metalic pearl yellow...
