There will be no successor.
So if you want one, get it now.

Wouldn't be such an issue if we were actually getting the 6 wagon...

In one breath;
Cudos to Mazda for fitting a manual and good riddance.

I know a lot of people who have or had one. Biggest complain is that it is either a 4 seater with room for the groceries or a 5/6 seater with no room for nothing.

Even with all the seats up, there's still room for a box of cereal or two.

Those are good vans, sad to see them go. At least there are plenty of used ones to go around for a while.

Welp, time to say goodbye to the old girl.
it was a pretty nice people hauler, and would have benefited from a skyactiv engine and the kodo look.

I'd rock a 1st gen 5 but that smiley face is too much for me on the later ones. They'd look freaking sweet with the new design Mazda is doing, though.

ayup.
Mine was in that beautiful blue.
manual.
traded it in for a used suzuki forenza wagon two years later due to serious money issues in the household (peak of the financial crash- out of work).
i miss that thing, i dont miss my 03 mazda three that i let go of that year as well.. but for some reason it was sad to see the 5 go.

Might be the odd one out here, and this is from one crappy experience... But I hated it.
We ponied up the extra dough to rent one of these to take 5 people to Vegas a some years back (first gen) and to save money, I only listed myself as the one to drive. I figured we were going to be fine with room since that's literally the entire reason it exists, but I was miserable.
Granted I'm 6'4", which isn't insanely tall, but certainly above average, but both of my knees were locked against the dash board for the entire 5 hour drive each way. The seat was back as far as it could go and everything. I was very sore after that drive, especially when having to drive back recovering from a Vegas hang over.
I was driving a tiny little 318ti at the time and had loads of leg/knee room, but this thing? No way. Hell, even in the little 300zx I just bought I have the seats a few notches forward. Ridiculous.
