My friend's a model and she recently got her dream car: a Geo Metro. In teal. She finally posted a sample from her latest photoshoot on Facebook and I gwuffawed in the middle of class because... dear god. A geo metro . So many props.

Off topic: I'm slightly annoyed I didn't look that good at 16. People are getting older younger and younger now. Middle schoolers be looking like high schoolers now, and some high schoolers look like they're about to fucking retire. Meanwhile I tread the line between baby face and nasty pube facial hair. Ugh.

Even more off-topic: That bokeh looks photoshopped as hell. There's no way that blur is real. If so, that's some damn impressive glass. Then again, looking at how insanely strong his flash is, the photog probably has the money for a lens like that. I still call bullshit though.

I'm in college and my face is 100% the wrong shape for a mustache. A beard maybe, but it always tends to err on the side of being a neckbeard and no thank you. I go through razors at an amazing rate now.

You are correct about how people are aging these days. My Nephew is not even 20 yet could pass for close to 30.

As for the whole facial hair thing, I guess I'm luck in that regard. Years ago (21, egads!) I was in my senior class play. I was the only one who could grow a beard for their part.

The sucky part about being able to grow facial hair is having to shave it all the damn time if you aren't going with a beard. Which is usually why I do have a beard.

I'm not sure what happened, but when I started college it seemed like the average attractiveness and maturity of the people I was around took a nosedive. Just seemed like the seniors at my high school were so much more mature and nice to look at than my classmates in college.

When I was 16, I dated a girl that was 14 (soon to turn 15, I swear) and there was nothing wrong with that.

Two years later, I was dating the same girl, except I was 18 (and now legally a responsible adult) while she was 16 (legally a child) and I was almost accused of being a pedophile.

It looks fake because of the incredibly strong flash he's using. It makes her skin look flawless (She does NOT look that good in real life) but also gives a cooler whiteish glare to the car that doesn't quite fit in right with the warmer sun-tinted tone of everything else. It's a bizarre look.

I have a picture of myself waterskiing where myself and the water spray are illuminated by the sun but the background is all stormclouds. It also looks like a photoshop.

Yeah, I tried to grow a beard on and off since freshman year in college...first time it filled in to my satisfaction was when I was 26. My dad was the same way, and he has had facial hair all my life so I can't even imagine him with scraggly chin-pubes. Still, that's apparently how he looked at 19.

I've been able to grow a real enough beard since junior prom. Even my dad was like "how the fuck do you do that?" and he has the beard my beard aspires to be.

Yeah. I have a some friends now who still can't do facial hair at all, and others that have amazing beards. Crazy how variable stuff like that is. Unfortunately I have yet to reach the point where I can really grow it out and it'll look cool. I've tried before, and results weren't great... Maybe by next November it'll be a different story.

I gave up a few months back and just shaved it all off down to the lowest guard setting on my trimmer. It also saves a small fortune on hair cuts and buying and losing combs. :)

I'm 34 and still can't grow a beard. It's patchy and slow growing and generally just not attractive. The sooner you get over the fact that you can't have a beard, or that your beard isn't as amazing as some others, the happier you'll be.

Recipe:

Mix one wide lens with a smallish digital sensor, use a big aperture number (bigger is better, remember!) and you've just created depth of field that stretches for miles.

Sprinkle on some photoshop and you have now transformed yourself into a professional photographer.

I kid, I kid! Looks like a bit of background blur adjustment. Not entirely natural, but it's not that bad - for some reason I didn't even notice it until someone else brought it up...

What I noticed right off is that the model is completely in focus, but the bokeh starts with the car she's sitting on. There's no way you could get a deep enough DOF to have the model in focus and not have at least half the car also in focus. Unless I'm missing something.

So can someone school me on bokeh? Seeing it used around the Opposphere, it sounds like folks are referring to what I've always known to be shallow depth of field (foreground in focus; background out of focus). I always thought bokeh was - more or less - blurry points of light, such as:

I believe it just means a pleasantly blurry background that allows the subject to stand out. I don't believe it is limited to points of light. Some lenses give better bokeh than others. It's one of the measures of the quality of a lens.
