I saw a E39 530i on the road the other day with a M5 badge carefully glued on the left side of the rear. I apologize for lack of pic/video but yeah, it happened. Outside of the M5 sticker, everything else appeared to be stock 530i.

Yes, I did laugh at the driver as I passed him.

Connecticut? Was it black and music was PUMPIN out of it? I see one much like that parked across the street at a pizza place.

Nice, I'm not too far out where I work by the airport. Pittsburgh is great for beer, that's for sure.

Last time I was home I stopped a few spots on the Allegheny River Libation Trail. Wine liquor and beer. Then filled up and topped off with primanti's.

I just read about a new brewery that opened up like last week in Bethel too, which is nice because its super close to where I'll be.

That's funny - I passed a beautiful de-badged E34 M5 clone on the way to work today. We stopped together at a light, and I rolled my window down and complimented him on how nice it looked.

I assumed it wasn't an M5, since there were some off bits and I wouldn't expect an old M5 to be de-badged, but I asked if it was a 540.

No - just a nice 525. He even said it apologetically.

I understand wanting to appear nicer/faster, but when you de-badge/rebadge - especially with a base model - and someone who knows asks about the car, it just opens you up to feeling a bit sheepish.

Again, de-badging an M car to make it more of a sleeper I'd totally ok. De-badging a base car after adding M car trim seems like a somewhat less-wise move.
