I've been driving for six months, and I'm not a perfect driver. Not even close, actually. I shared this clip this morning, and one gentleman pointed out that my course of action was not necessarily the best one. Looking back I can't say he's wrong, so I want to know what I did wrong here and what you, the older and wiser Opponaunts with more miles under your belt would do differently. The only thing I ask you to keep in mind was that, although not super close, there were cars behind me and to my right.

You didn't yank the wheel or slam on the brakes (or both) so you have nothing to beat yourself up over.

You could have done much worse.

1. Use your damn wipers you damn whippersnapper dammit.

2. Should've slowed down and merged behind the Ram in the right lane.

I wouldn't do it. It's a stupid act from that guy to do a U-Turn in the middle of nowhere. Calling it out by honking isn't wrong, and apparently the guy wasn't even engaged in reverse. So, he wasn't risking hitting you.

But my wife, for example would honk (and yell, and if it wasn't cold, flip him off). Because she says it's right to call out bad drivers. Especially because someone could lose control on the ice and cause an accident with that. So it does make sense.

I'm assuming that giving him more space would be a good idea in future, though.

#2 is what I was thinking. Thanks. Funny thing is, right now I can't remember if I had space to or not. I could have had the space, but I don't remember.

The plow was reversing as I passed.

I am not sure what else was posted but, when I first saw the video earlier my first thought was you should have slowed down and switched lanes.

You are still taking a chance that Mr. Plow is going to see you coming. You would have had the same risk in the other lane but he probably wouldn't have needed to back all the way across the road to turn around. Being in the other lane mitigates a lot of risk.

I don't think you did anything wrong. The plow was being a fool and almost wrecked you. You could have freaked out and ended up crashing but you kept your cool. Good job. Plus, you have great taste in music, so I can't fault you there either.

I think the general verdict seems to be, "good job for not panicking, but next time change lanes when you see it coming."

Well yah I mean if you could have I guess that would have been better, but I don't really see myself doing much different... it's easy to judge when you're not there in the moment.

I probably would have blown the horn. Maybe not completely laid on the horn but definitely enough to let him know I was there.

Even though he wasn't in reverse, you never know someone's intentions or future actions so I always assume the worst of other drivers. Just a quick beep of the supertones to let him know I'm there.

Could've merged right, but that could've made you lose traction. At least you should've slowed a little more, other than that, you handled it without panic. Which is VERy important

The one thing I learned with posting dashcam videos to YouTube is that there are ALWAYS people out there smarter than you, that would have done such and such differently, etc etc.

But hindsight is 20/20, whatever that means. I see nothing wrong with your actions if there was traffic to the right and behind you.

And f that plow driver for not hammering the gas and doing a quick 180. Cause that's what I would have done.

To be fair you were in your lane, you didn't panic and you made your presence known to the other road user who was about to reverse into your lane.

The driver of the plow should of fully pulled off the highway and then slowly reversed into his lane 1. The way he/she did what they did is complete lack of spacial awareness and if he/she can't do a quick U-turn when they have two lanes themselves then that's just appalling. What if another road user coming the other way saw a truck stopped across to lanes and didn't have time to react?

If you want to execute a U-turn either wait till there is no traffic or pull off the highway altogether and reverse back into traffic on your own side or use an open clear intersection.

"I am not sure what else was posted but, when I first saw the video earlier my first thought was you should have slowed down and switched lanes." as blacktruck14 said.

That and it sounds like your radio is a tad too loud. I know i know wtf radio? But you're a new driver, you need to hear everything and less volume makes it easier to focus instead of singing along to katy perry (not that you were, my wife does, I give her the same rant.)

When you passed this foolio who was reversing into traffic, I hear censored bleeps from what I assume was you cursing up a storm as I would have.

Kinja'd!!!1

Holy crap that's the horn?! On my PC I swear it sounds like those censored bleeps, I was just thinking damn sm70 probably said some pretty raw shit right there. I know I would've said something that start's with "the fuck are you doin" and ends with "stupid fuckin' dick head" with a few other curses in the middle for good measure.

I think I DoD after the video ended. Sometimes I swear, sometimes not.

If it sounded twice at equal intervals, that was the horn.
