So my mom is having surgery today. Nothing major or life threatening, she's getting a sleeve installed around her stomach for weight loss (she's 5'0" and 180-ish pounds and she's been attempting any weight lose she could do, but nothing has worked).

It's been a long journey for her to get here. She started talks with her doctor back in July of last year and they (primary doc, cardiologist, and surgeon) finally convinced the health insurance that this was a must needed procedure.

The family is really excited because the minute the procedure is completed my moms type two diabetes will be completely gone.

The road ahead though won't be easy. After this is done she will be on a very strict liquid only diet for a couple of months and won't be back to eating full solids for at least 6-8 months.

A Porsche LeMans for your time..

I've heard nothing but good things about the gastric sleeve - best of luck to Mama BKosher!

Yeah. It's literally the only thing this surgeon does. He's done the others before (lap bands and whatnot) but found that the successfulness of those aren't as good so he stopped doing them. He's had about 2000-3000 surgeries under his belt.

You mean 2000-3000 under other people's belts? ;-)

I've had family who has done this and their results are just incredible. The amount of weight lost since the surgery is insane.

Depending on the person recovery can be a little rough. And so can getting adjusted to the new diet. But as I said, the results are pretty amazing. So good luck to her!
