I've never really thought of Porsche as a sensitive automaker. They're my undisputed favorite, though they don't exactly give me that warm fuzzy feeling.

My favorite example of this comes from a comment by Porsche's U.S. CEO, Detlev von Platen. When asked about the possibility of an entry-level model to sit below the Boxster in Porsche's lineup, von Platen !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :

[...] "We're not talking about entry models at Porsche. Our entry model is our pre-owned program."

I don't know why, but that response had me laughing out loud.

While this case and more show a certain coldness, Porsche's latest marketing ploy almost makes me forget all about it. I think it's safe to say that winning would give me that warm fuzzy feeling I've been missing.

Upon reaching 10 million likes on their official Facebook page, Porsche launched a contest in which one winner and his/her friend will embark upon an unforgettable road trip covering 10 million decimeters (or 621 miles) riding shotgun in a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Porsche will even pay travel costs including hotel and airfare. To win the contest, you need only guess closest to where the road trip will take place. Simple enough, right?

Not exactly. Porsche provides you with a map of the entire earth (Mercator style if I remember elementary school geography correctly), and it is your job to pin as close as possible to the route. Shockingly, the location may be in Germany; I pinned central Germany and was only 834 km away. Germany isn't exactly a small country though, and pinpointing near the winning location will take more than a stroke of luck.

Let's have a friendly contest, Opponauts. Who can get the closest? You might just be the winner of more than our little game.

It isn't Southern Germany. Guessed Munich and was 1,000+ away.

This is actually a pretty cool contest. I've never seen automakers do anything like this

I did Cologne, NW Germany, and was only 560km away. It must be closer to Berlin/Poland.

I did a bit of shitty triangulation and clicked on Luton, just north of London:
Graham Bergey, 60.27 km

haha getting all scientific in here. I thought about using triangulation too. If we had enough people we could just about get this spot on. With how many people entered, I feel like someone would still get closer out of pure luck though.

I'll blame the guy who said "Ireland" as his guess, makes everything a little dubious. Between Le Mans, Cologne, and Luton, we should be able to nail it down exactly, too bad we can't make a second guess :P

Time to find a friend, commandeer their fb, make your pick, and select yourself as the "friend" to accompany them
