That my friend is a Wrangler with a LED light bar attached to it. Sorry for some of you that might have this mod but I find them douche-baggy and annoying. Why you ask? Because for one, why the hell do you need a light bar when all your doing is navigation the jungles of suburbia? Do you need to spot those pesky kids on hover boards? Not only that, but the drives of the vehicles that they are attached to feel its their duty to tailgate. So the light of the sun is constantly in your eyes? What other annoying mods have you guys seen around?

Agreed, those are obnoxious. My pick is the external loudspeaker forcing everyone in the vicinity to listen to their shitty music.

THIS

1000X THIS

Every truck and SUV in my high school now has to have them. And most of the time, these kids leave them on, even in the daylight so they are always blinding someone.

Second is these giant lifted trucks on super stretched tires. They are unsafe and look ridiculous.

What about not re-aiming your headlights after a lift? That’s almost as bad as a light bar.

A bunch of damn posers. Especially the giant lifted trucks. There should be a law against lifts.

That’s a good one. But at the same time there are people who do overlanding or night off-roading and actually put them to good use. If I see them on a jeep, rover, or land cruiser with useful mods I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

That pertains to almost 98% of lifts. None of them do it. Either they don’t do it, or their lift is so stupidly high that they don’t need to.

These things have got to generate a crap ton of wind noise. Jeeps are notoriously noisy, so maybe this isn’t a big deal.

I thought the same thing too. But I’m pretty sure they aren’t. Surprisingly, the majority of people I see driving around with these are what look to be house wives. Other than that the lifts on their vehicles tell me they either aren’t doing any off roading or they cant at all, like the majority of lifts. Not saying that females cant off road, I’m just saying you don’t need off road tires and a light bar to get the kids from school and go on your Starbucks run.

I hate that the new trend in douchary is lightbars. Partly because it is so massively douchy looking. Partly because I want one for use as...you know...a light. My friend put one on his truck for the Maze trip and because the daylight hours were short it got used a lot...and i LOVED it.

Agreed, light bars are heinous. Mostly because the vehicles they’re installed on never leave the pavement, as you pointed out. Flashy tow hooks/straps are just as bad IMO. Yet another trendy accessory for posers who don’t understand what it’s actually designed for. We all know that most slammed Miatas/Civics/etc never see the track! And if they did end up in a gravel trap, those pink Chinese ebay hooks would probably snap before the stancemobile in question made it back onto the tarmac.

And you proved that you should only use it if you actually off road. Not just for looks. I seen one on an FJ Crusier the other day complete with fake gas cans. If you don’t off road, don’t have one. If you do off road, take that shit off once you get back home or don’t turn it on at night.

I didn’t get a picture, but the other day when it was all crazy snowy outside, I took my Grand Cherokee on General Grabber AT2s to the local Subway to get lunch.

There was a big RAM 2500 Diesel, sitting out front of the place idling unattended (so as to not get cold while its owner ate his sub inside?) lifted on giant rims with mud terrains, roll bar, bull bar, all your usual bro truck accoutrements. But the roll bar, bull bar, and wheels were all camouflage.

I went inside and there were these two guys eating their sandwiches. One of them had those awful bleach-patterened jeans that I only ever see slightly redneckish dudes wearing because I guess they figured the most expensive jeans with the most bleach stains and embroidered butt pockets at Kohl’s are the best jeans.

The trouble is; who is able to judge which get used off road and which don’t. This frontier when its all clean probably gets a lot of douch bro looks...

That’s why I try and reserve judgement on all but the most obvious examples of off road jewelry. However, if you use these on a public road you deserve to have your nuts ripped off, bronzed and then used as an ISIS paperweight.

I personally LOVE the look of the overland setup if done right...but...I also really enjoy the modularity and stealth of being able to add and subtract as needed. My truck gives off very few hints it actually gets used in its DD configuration.

FYI- Utah has a law on lifts [long story short - usable lifts are allowed, douchy lifts aren’t], its enforced as much as its law on blocking the left lane. But seriously, you can’t say no lifts...like you can’t say no drops.

Kinja'd!!! LJ909 > HammerheadFistpunch
12/30/2015 at 16:46

Kinja'd!!!0

True. Well there should be lifts to a point. Because to me its more dangerous to overly lift a truck than it is to drop a car. The lifts are dangerous because most of the drivers drive the things like they are smaller cars, they tail gate and have a super high center of gravity. I cringe when I see lifted Excursions loaded down with family and luggage.

i question why someone wants to put a sticker of all their family members on the back of their car but it is a 100 times more annoying when someone posts a sticker of a chainsaw murderer on the back of their car telling us all how much they don’t care. Which proves they do care enough, enough to buy a weird/antisocial sticker telling everyone.

Kinja'd!!! HammerheadFistpunch > LJ909
12/30/2015 at 16:53

Kinja'd!!!1

Both are dangerous. Lowering a car bellow its roll center is a bad idea for handling and can make it pretty dangerous if done poorly, on the other hand you can do a 4 inch lift pretty safe. That being said, cheap lifts/drops and or crappy execution are usually a pretty bad idea. Utah’s law looks at wheelbase as a lift limit, i.e. you can’t put a 4 inch lift on a 2 door wangler but you could on a 4 door long bed truck. the idea being roll stability. Its still pretty limited and even with my relatively big cruiser im legally limited to 2.5 inches. Granted, if you need more than 4 inches of lift...chances are you are either trailering your rig to the trailhead anyway or you don’t actually go offroad and its all for looks.

I look for functional mods. The ARB bumper is a good indicator the guy probably uses it. If he just wanted looks he would have gotten a brush guard. Decent off road wheels and tires work too. If they have all the gear, but still have all seasons, I’m going to judge you.

Fake HID”S: If you can’t afford to get HID’s don’t get any lights at all

I used to think the Mazda badge thing was something people ordered until I saw people cutting it. Dumb.

And the painting of the grill is done by a lot of people wanting what some call the Evo look or GTR look or whatever. I’ve seen it on everything from Chevy Sonics to first gen Infiniti G35 coupes

Yeah...when I still had my Subaru a guy in a ridiculous brodozer was popping and weaving through highway traffic...I was feeling assholeish, so I proceeded to cut him off, slow down to 5mph below the speed of traffic, and speed up every time he tried to pass me. Not one of my better moments...but very satisfying. Probably wouldn’t have done it if not for the fact that we were barely going 15mph anyway.

turns out I was wrong, I guess its based on GVWR and frame height.

Under 4,500 lb GVWR 24 in.

4,500-7,499 lb GVWR 26 in.

7,500 lb and over 28 in.

however if you change your track width you have to cover the tires with fenders
