Kinja'd!!!

I’m obsessed with sneakers. I also have a $50 Foot Locker gift card burning a hole in my pocket, and I’ve landed on a theme of grey(ish) retro runners, but I can’t make up my mind on which ones I like the most. Please help me decide!

Here are the shoes I’m eyeing, and how much they cost. Subtract $50 for what I’ll actually pay after the gift card.

Things to keep in mind:

I already have pairs of New Balance 574 and 996 in different colors. I don’t have any similar Puma or Saucony runners to the ones here.

Thanks but no thanks on other suggestions, I’ve spent far too much time narrowing it down to these options.

Poll is at the bottom.

Puma R698 Mesh V2 Gray Mono/Gum - $60

Kinja'd!!!

Saucony Shadow Original “Parfait” - $70

New Balance 574AT - $72

New Balance 574DGP - $72

I like all of the choices but especially the first three. I am also into shoes.

I want these from greats.

I’m into those pumas! But I’m an Adidas/Supra mid top addict so my opinion is somewhat irrelevant lol.

Hey, any input is welcome. I don’t have only retro runners, although they are a staple of mine. My 3 main categories are runners (primarily retros but some modern ones), a bunch of 80s/90s basketball mid/high tops, and some more basic low tops like Vans and Puma Baskets/Suedes/Clydes.

I vote New Balance

At least for me, Pumas seem to run narrow and I have kind of wide feet.

Now im thinking about buying a pair (574DGP)

I’m not a sneakerhead, but I’ve long been partial to New Balances. But I wear primarily for comfort and function, not fashion.

That being said I’d probably go with the Pumas. They look the best of the bunch to me (was never a fan of Saucony), and cheap NBs just aren’t worth it to me. Your best value is probably the Pumas too.

I also have wide feet. My real size is 11 extra-wide but for shoes that don’t come in widths I buy a 12. Some shoes are still too narrow when doing this. I have the most problems with Nike and Asics retro runners.

I’m not worried about the R698s because I used to have a pair in a different color and they were both wide enough and also really comfy. Much comfier than 574s, but 574s just need better insoles to become comfy.

NB 530 and 580 are my favorite chunky runner silhouettes but those Pumas are nice too. I’ve been getting a lot of wear out of my ZX Flux’s recently too, which are similar to those mesh Pumas, so I would have to recommend those too.

If It were up to me though, I would buy the Jordan 1 OG lows in black and silver, or maybe a pair of 2015 Hyperdunks for spring when the weather gets nice enough for basketball again.

I just got some AJ1 Nouveau Mids that are black leather and “anthracite” suede. Usually I feel like the materials on AJ1s, even most of the Nouveaus, are shitty, but these are nice quality.

Kinja'd!!!

As for Hyperdunks, I’m absolutely terrible at basketball though so the only “performance” shoes I have are stability runners I use at the gym for my wide-ass feet with low arches, and snow boots.

I really like the 574s, I wanted the pair because of the looks but had to buy them because of the comfort:

Kinja'd!!!

I like Pumas but mesh shoes aren’t my thing, although the colour of what you picked looks nice. If you like mesh, then I think that’s a solid choice.

The NB 574 that’s grey/yellow/black would be my choice, I just don’t like that paint spatter effect on the sides of the sole.

What I actually voted for is the NB 530 that’s a mix of grey suede/leather with the yellow sole. I really like that one.

Those are real nice, can’t go wrong with the 1’s. I completely slept on all the good drops this year. My biggest misses of 2015:

1. Jordan VI Low “Chrome”

2. Black/White Nike Lab Footscape Magista

3. The Chicago Jordan 1 OGs.

I had a decent shot at the first two, but Chicago’s are grails. Resellers are fucking killer man.

Also as for NBs, I don’t consider the 574 one of the chunky silos. There are many levels of NB runner chunkiness.

1. NOPE, TOO CHUNKY

Fugly-ass dad shoes that will never be good looking, I don’t care how many people try to make them a thing: 990v3, 993

Super-chunky that I like some colorways of but I can’t bring myself to actually buy: 580, 999

2. Chunky, but I might mess with them, depends on c/w

Old-school and chunky: 990 OG

Built-up techy/chunky, but with the right c/w I could cop: 998, 1600

That’s my jam

Techy but relatively streamlined: 530, 572, 577, 878, 997, 1500

Old-school and slim (for NB, at least): 574, 576, 996, 1300, 1400

I actually own both of my grails. I wear all my sneakers, except these 2 pairs.

Air Jordan 11 Playoffs - didn’t mess with trying to get them when they dropped, but a buddy of mine who gets everything was cleaning out his closet and sold me his for $200

Kinja'd!!!

Reebok Instapump Fury OG - another one where I slept on them when they first came out but I snagged the last pair in my size online from Packer Shoes like a year later for $160

Kinja'd!!!

I also have a pair of Olympic Air More Uptempos that I probably shouldn’t wear but I bought them on ebay already worn and they’re super easy to keep clean and uncreased.

I have burgundy 574s:

Kinja'd!!!

I love the Puma Trinomic soles for comfort. That sole shared on the R698 and some other models like the Blaze of Glory and Disc Blaze is super comfy. I’m on the fence with the whole knit shoe thing, that’s kind of a trend right now but I’m not sure how well they’ll hold up over time. I’m a little surprised to see those running away with the votes.

I do like 530s but I’m not sure on that specific model. Almost too gray. I like how the 572s also have gray and gum soles but are less monotonous. There’s another 530 colorway, the 530RWB, that I really dig, but they’re only in stock at Eastbay and you can’t use Foot Locker gift cards at Eastbay, even though they’re the same company.

I like the looks of lots of Asics retros but I’m worried about the width. My real shoe size is 11 extra wide, so most stuff like this I buy a 12. But some shoes even in a 12 are too narrow. I tried on a pair of Gel Lyte IIIs and that was the case. That’s not to say I’d never buy Asics but I’ll have to try on other models to see how they work for me. I usually have the best luck with NB, Saucony and Rebook. Seems like Foot Locker isn’t really carrying Rebook anymore though.

I like the 574s with the purple and neon green, mainly because they’d look like something I wear (bright colors, woo hoo.) I should’ve voted for the Pumas, though; Puma makes good pants and socks (probably good shoes, too), they aren’t ugly like the Sauconys, and they’re the cheapest. You’ll only have to spend $10!

I have the same problem, true size is a 9.5 but my foot is wide enough that I need a 10. the GL3 is usually a no go for me, but the saga is perfect. I tend to stick to New Balance just because their quality is so high.

Hmm, worth keeping an eye out for them then. But none of the 4 colorways in stock in size 12 at Foot Locker are really grabbing me. Maybe the orange/black ones but lately I’ve been feeling more subdued styles rather than loud like that.

Actually those green ones reminded me that I’ve been eyeing these Reebok GL 6000s but I really should skip them since I already have a bunch of green sneakers already.
