Yaaaaaaay! I got a 7D for Christmas, so of course my first test picture is going to be of Puffalumps.
Here’s a later, slightly brighter picture:
Puffalumps are the best.

I’ve been using a 7D for a few years now and I still can’t bring myself to upgrade. I love the images it spits out, the color, quality, whole nine yards. The autofocus can be a real PITA though, I strongly suggest reading up on the different autofocus modes just as a refresher.
Also, make sure you’re on the latest firmware for it. You should be using 2.0.3. If you’re on any 1.x.x firmware with the 7D, upgrading to 2.x.x will make it a whole new camera.
I also strongly recommend Sigma lenses, but I’m a little biased on that (I only have Sigma lenses).

OOH. I need to upgrade lenses eventually. For now, my semi-flooded ones are holding up, although I do tend to rent a big zoom for big events.
I think it came with the latest and greatest—it was a refurbished one bought through Canon.

I did have to put up with potato-only pics during F1 weekend, so there’s that. There was plenty of suffering before I could get the new camera.

For automotive use, I suggest 10-20mm f3.6 and the 50mm f1.4
I have a 120-400mm f4-5.6 that does the trick quite nicely, but really needs good light (daylight) to give good results. Great for races during the day.
You can check the firmware in the menu system just to be sure though, it ups burst from like 10 to 25 raw images in burst mode.
Are you using lightroom with all of these toys?

Nice!
I’ve really been wanting to get a DSLR lately. Going to pick up my buddy’s used 7D before too long, but right now safety gear and tires are taking priority. lol :)

Lightroom’s on my list of things to learn soon, so hopefully. Any tips or tricks or easy methods of getting started are more than welcome.

I actually don’t use Lightroom, in College (student discounts, yay!) I sprung for the whole CS6 Master Collection, so it didn’t include Lightroom. I use PotatoShop for everything, but Lightroom is much more simplified.
I’ll shoot you an email in the next couple evenings as I have a little more time to sit down with some pointers that have at least helped me, I also have another question for you, not totally unrelated to the last one!
