Now is your chance to help save a piece of Shelby history. Although, it may not be what you expect.

Kinja'd!!!

I have seen this post on the local Craigslist for a while and it appears that the poster has given up and is resorting to scrapping/parting the truck out. However, it looks like there may still be a chance so I thought I would post it here and see if it can make the rounds to find a potential buyer (Mr. DeMuro perhaps?!). I would hate to see a limited run Shelby be scrapped, even if it is a pickup truck.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This listing looks like there may be some assembly required when you receive the truck, but it comes with all of the original parts and most importantly, the Shelby wheels. It “looks” like a good restoration project. The current asking price is $2800 OBO. You can discuss whether that is a NPoCP below. I would personally be tempted, but do not have the funds.

Kinja'd!!!

For those who do not know the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was a limited production truck made in 1989. It was a partnership between Dodge and Shelby. Outside of the external add-ons and decals, the Shelby Dakota traded the stock 3.9L V6 for a 175hp 5.7L V8. This engine was attached to a 4 speed automatic transmission with power routed through a 3.90 rear end to the rear wheels. 0-60 was reached in 8 seconds. This may not be particularly impressive on paper, but this was the one of the first performance trucks built since the Little Red Express. This truck paved the way for the GMC Syclone and F150 Lightning. Only about 1500 trucks were built.

I’ve seen this one on and off too. I hate the whole “if I can’t sell it I’m cutting it up” attitude.

If you can’t sell it at your “fair” price then your price may not be that fair. He’ll get half way through parting it out, lose interest and scrap it at a loss.

The engine in these are very different. Someone on the internet took his engine apart and found flattop aluminum pistons, double roller timing chain and roller rockers. The crank was very different from a normal 318 from that same year. it’s either stroker or balanced or something. So, the poster of that information thinks the factory 175hp rating is off. This makes things interesting.

175 is about right. The standard LA 318 for the year either had 140 or 170 hp (depending on fuel configuration). The engine wasn’t able to get past the 200 mark until 1992 with the Magnum modifications. As well, rollers were introduced to the 318 in 1988.

Glad to see he has the original wheels because the current wheels are hideous. Crack price, though, for sure, at $2800. $1500, maybe.

I would bet he could get closer to his asking price if he took the time to put the original tailgate and wheels back on. Still probably not $2800 even though it looks like it is halfway decent shape compared to others I have seen in the 1500-2k price point.

The whole I am selling it whole for this price “OBO” or I am parting it is a pretty silly attitude, especially with a vehicle like this. Outside of the engine, drive train, and appearance pieces, it has the same parts as a normal 1989 Dodge Dakota, and parts for those practically grow on trees. What particularly annoys me about the “OBO no lowballs” is that to them a lowball is $2500 or something silly.

As I mentioned in another comment, I think he should put in the effort of putting the original tailgate and wheels back on. I bet that will help.

Yeah, if you want top dollar put some effort into it! Swap the seats and wheels.

I just get a kick out of Craigslist sellers with attitude. When I see stuff like “I KNOW WHAT IT’S WORTH”, “NO LOWBALLERS” and “I DONT NEED TO SELL” I usually just pass up the ad. You’re selling a product treat the potential buyer with respect and you’ll do well.

Could you imagine if BP came out with an ad campaign like this?

“We’re BP buy our gas or go F*** yourself! We really don’t need to sell it!”

A thoroughly uninspiring vehicle, all the same: all that 80s-era plastic and 5.7 litres making well under 200 horsepower. I wouldn’t even be curious to drive it.

And NO CHECK SCAMS. Right. Text me your social security number and I’ll fax you money order. This guy is a dweeb with a car he’ll be doing very well to get $1200 for.

I think these are interesting and different. However, I would much rather have the 89 Dakota Convertible, manual and 4WD please.

Well tbh BP is kind of like that lol, except replace the “or” with “and”

Also replace “We don’t need to sell it” with “we will ‘inadvertently’ dump our excess into the Gulf of Mexico and kill all the baby pelicans, you wouldn’t want to hurt baby pelicans.”
