So second gear started grinding in my girlfriend’s laser. I diagnosed it as a dying syncro, and she listened with genuine interest as I explained what that is and what it does. I suggested she take the car back to the place that installed a supposedly “new” gearbox only a couple years ago. Or, I joked, she could just learn to double clutch and rev match. She was curious, and wanted to know more. Guess who’s dating a racing driver now.
Yay for not needing to drive to a transmission shop in some gloomy business district in an urbansprawlburb 20 miles from here! Oh, and also the whole learning to double clutch thing.
Now to get her to stop lurking and use that kinja account!

I feel you as my Matrix came with weird semi-dying syncros, further worsened by bizarre gear ratios and even more convolting to anyone who isn’t used to driving with this transmission. Rev matching, heel toe, and (not yet) double clutching is already in motion. 9/10 people who have driven my car have talked about how bad this is. I hate it in stop and go traffic. I relish it in the mountain roads.

Thats pretty cool. Your a lucky man to find such a lady. I offered to teach my cousin to drive stick in the z today and she wasnt interested.
