Some are appropriately banned. Some are banned for no reason (853 is just a harmless number) Most don’t make any sense (what is a “VVS1D?”) I see why “69STANG” is banned, but why “70DODGE”?

Haha...
Why is VADER banned?

Well... Apparently I can’t build a donk and put the tag “vomit” on it.
But some I don’t understand either. V10, V12, Veteran, Vader (that would be an awesome plate).

Totoro is banned, which makes me sad.

BDR 529 isn’t on the list. Illinois won’t issue it.
(Plate from the Blues Brothers and Dr. Detroit)

Why in the world is WARP10 banned? That's just a Star Trek reference

And Gunsmith Cats.
(yeah, they mirrored it for the initial US release. RHD GT500.)

I think some of these are probably banned because people try to steal them like any mile marker “420.”

Kenichi Sonoda is actually a big fan of Blues Brothers, which is why Rally’s GT500 has the plate, and why it’s set in Chicago. All due to Sonoda’s love of the film.

Clearly because whoever decides what is banned and what isn't is a Star Wars fan

They didn’t want to issue one of my plates (saabaru) online, but after I spoke to the nice ladies at the dmv and feigned ignorance when they asked if I checked online if it was available, they sent the form in and I got my plates a month later.

Well, that’s their first mistake, of course. ;)

Well, the helpful people employed at the DMV want to devoid of us of all fun. Vader is also banned....so I presume they are the most rigid people on earth. Possibly as rigid as a carbon fiber 2x4, because they can definitely hold up a bridge of fun killers.

‘IVQII’, one I remember seeing in C&D 30 years ago, is, not surprisingly, banned, along with more possible variations on that theme than I’ve ever considered. Not that I’d want that on my vehicle, mind you, but it did appeal to my teenage sensibilities back then.

I’ve tried sounding that out a whole bunch of different ways and I’ve got nothing... what’s it mean?

Think Roman numerals for the first two and last two characters, then say all three syllables. Juvenile, yes, but I was a juvenile when this first came to light.

Watch it, bub. What did I ever do to you?
Yeah, that’s it. Stupid, I know. And as you can see from that list, just about everything starting with ‘IVQ’ is justifiably banned.
