I don’t know if you folks outside of the UK have heard of any of these, but if you have not, enjoy the sounds of a British Christmas.
We’ll Start off with 1973’s Christmas Number One (for 5 weeks) Slade- Merry Christmas Everybody.
We’ll Follow up with some Wizzard also from 1973, but only reaching number Four in the Charts with “I wish it could be Christmas everyday”
Now into the 21st Century with the Darkness and their instant classic from 2007 “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)”. Look for the Bonus Ferrari.
Moving away from the Christmas Rock to something a bit more pop we find Wales’ finest Shakin’ Stevens with his 1985 number one “Merry Christmas Everyone”
I know you must be thinking “Geez Leon, this is all nice and stuff but where’s the 1950’s style Christmas stuff?” don’t worry guys I got your back. Have “Lonely this Christmas” by Mud this was top of the charts at Christmas in 1974.
Finally, it’s time for the Joker round, in 1993 the Christmas number one was not a Christmas song but it’s too weird not to share and the video has an appearance from none other than Jeremy Clarkson. it’s Mr Blobby with “Blobby”.
Well there’s a brief Christmas playlist, what Christmas songs are unique to where you’re from? Share them and we can have a Global Christmas party.
