1984 was one of the final RWD years for the Delta 88. These were also the last years you could get one with a V8. Pillow-seats continued to live on for a while, though.

Even the late Dick Van Patten found this Oldsmobile to be a winning combination:

And don’t forget that just 2-3 years after these Van Patten family Oldsmobile ads (they figured prominently in the downsized ‘86 Delta 88 ads, above), they switched to “Not your father’s Oldsmobile” while offering almost the exact same lineup they had in 1986. Only the Cutlass Supreme had changed between 1986 and 89.

No wonder the later campaign was such a failure.

Sadly, the 88 does not have the awesome little fender flareskirt jobbers of the 98.

I love these! My mom had a new dark blue ‘84 Delta 88 coupe. I loved that car so much, and so did she. If I ever find a clean one for sale, I will buy it.
